What beer are you drinking?

In honor of one of the greatest foods ever (maybe even better than bacon...), would love to know what kinds of beers #!'ers are drinking.

My 'fridge has a Teutonic theme this month:  a couple of bottles of an Austrian Stieglbock, some Wuerzburger Hofbrau, and a bunch of Becks Premium Light, which is the Other Half's preferred beer.  We're also lucky to have a great local beer store.  The owner is a bit of a curmudgeon -- he's gruff, but has great taste, so we're not stuck with just mega-brands.

What do you all like?

Re: What beer are you drinking?

I mostly drink Heineken (which in this part of the Netherlands is often considered blasphemy: the Grolsch brewery is about 6 km. from here...)

Re: What beer are you drinking?

My fav is Berkshire Ale, local to my home state of Massachusetts, USA. It comes in 64oz bottles called "growlers." (Does that word mean the same in other countries?)

What has a fridge got to do with beer? big_smile wink tongue
My kitchen shelves are usually filled with Bombardier, Extra Double Chocolate or Rigor Mortis.
Ale, Bitter and Stout are my flavours.
Then again, a well chilled German Wheat Beer ain't wrong either. wink (Aah, that's what the fridge is for!) tongue

I'm more of a stout lover (Guinness) big_smile

If it's beer, it's usually just a regular 7-11 brand like Heineken or Asahi. hmm

Re: What beer are you drinking?

You lucky people, with all those delectable European beers at hand! Right now I'm drinking Kirin Classic Lager, which isn't bad, but often enough it's the much cheaper "Mugi to Hoppu" by Sapporo - a "third beer" variation on "happoshu".

Hard times...

Re: What beer are you drinking?

I'm kickin it Hillbilly-Punk-Rock style with PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) in the bottle. The bottle is the only way to go because PBR gives you a playing card under the cap. Beer Black Jack woohoo!

I've also got to give love to Tallgrass Brewery in Manhattan KS. Their Lager, Wheat and Stout are all excellent. It brings pride to my Kansas heart. If you're ever in the Mid-West try some. Schlafly's out of St. Louis MO is also worth a taste.

I do love my Imports though. Franziskaner Hefeweizen is my favorite Hefe when I can find it. Warsteiner Dunkel, Boddingtons Pub Ale, oh man the list goes on. I can't wait for my dream vacation to the EU just to sample the brews.

Barbecue season is getting close. That means Weekends full of friends, food and "what Beer did you bring?"

Being a Bourbon/ Whisky guy though. On top of the fridge is Bookers, Jack Daniels Single Barrel, Knob Creek, the Bulleit Bourbon met it's end last night and Wild Turkey 101 in the band room.

Wow, I know it may look like I'm an Alcoholic, but I assure you I don't go to meetings. tongue

Excuse #2: I'm in a band. big_smile

Re: What beer are you drinking?

herb tea; the only alcohol I get in  tiramisu.
Why? I got so tired when I drank.
I'm very keen on keeping my memory as good as possible.
As I'm ageing that really doesn't get any better.
Not drinking really helps me there.
But I admit being a very, very boring guy.

La bière du pêcheur, an alsatian beer:

and when I go back to Portugal only Super Bock:

This one is most certainly divine. A beverage so perfect can only be made by angelic hands!

OK, first, mugi means both wheat and barley in Japanese.
The Japanese tax law only refers to the percentage of malt (see the wikipedia link for details), so added unmalted barley or wheat don't affect the qualification for a lower tax bracket.
"Third beer" type drinks are weak, low-malt happoshu, or any other fermented stuff presumably, fortified with shochu, or any other kind of industrial-grade alcohol, flavoured with hops, or anything else the manufacturer thinks will improve the taste - soybeans, seaweed...

It sounds truly grim, and usually it is, but they're getting better at it and "Mugi to Hoppu" is actually drinkable, especially if you chill it well. The name describes the fact that only wheat, barley and hops are used in making it, though not all the barley is malted, and some of the wheat comes in the wheat-based shochu which is added to get the alcohol up to the usual 5% or so.

Especially in the summer!

I can't quite get used to the habit of putting a slice of orange or lemon in the wheat beer glass -- it just doesn't seem right.   It's like ice cubes in wine -- go with the flavor the maker put in it, or get something else...

Re: What beer are you drinking?

+1 for the fridge in Summer. "Cellar temperature" is perfect for top-fermented ales in the British climate, but that's presumably 15deg C or so (how do you input that degree symbol?). The summer temperatures here go to the high 30s (C) so chilling in the fridge is essential, especially for bottom-fermented lagers, - and delicious... smile
