RAM eating rtorrent issue

So I've decided to switch to rtorrent. While I quite like it and have had no major issues learning it, I'm quite surprised at how much RAM it can take(up to 70-80MB after a few hours running with 4-5 torrents active, saving to an external hdd), which is a lot for my eee901. Even deluge used up less memory. Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm running cruncheee 8.10.

Re: RAM eating rtorrent issue

Maybe its the version of rtorrent you have?

Try using this PPA to get a bit newer version:
