Installing dzen2 from svn

Dzen2 is messaging/notification application to use with (tiling) window managers which might be interesting for those who like tricky system monitoring and writing cool scripts. Different commands can be assigned to different actions (mouse clicks etc.) on  dzen area.

Screenshots of dzen: and … creenshots

The version one could install from ubuntu repos is too old and does not draw statusbars and graphs, and nice and handy scripts from here: … :mainindex would not work.

To get new version of dzen:

- install dependencies
sudo apt-get install build-essential subversion libx11-dev libxft-dev
- get sources
svn checkout dzen
- install
cd ~/dzen
sudo make install
cd gadgets
sudo make install

Dzen2 would be installed to /usr/local/bin/dzen2

On my current ubuntu 9.10 setup dzen2 would return 'command not found', so i need the full path to launch dzen and i have to change scripts when it comes to launching dzen.

Not a rocket science indeed, but i almost ceased my attempts to install this utility because there were no howto. ))
