compositing, everything is flickering

hi, i reinstalled crunchbang zwo days ago and tried to start compositing just a few moments ago. than everything is flickering, conky, the openboxmenu, everything;)

it's still ubuntu 9.04, the only change is conky 1.7.2.1

perhaps a grafikproblem, but it worked earlier with the same laptop

Re: compositing, everything is flickering

Try changing your .conkyrc file.  What works (for me anyway) is

own_window yes
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_type background
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

According to the Conky man page own_window_type overrides own_window_hints, but since it's there already I left it in there.

i think the man page means if you change it to own_window no, all the hints do is stop it showing in your task bar etc, which you want in this case.

Re: compositing, everything is flickering

well it could be that 'font' doesn't seem to be doing anything (or does that change it back to default) if not start it from the terminal, see what error messages you get.

Re: compositing, everything is flickering

try

conky >> ~/conky_output

that will redirect output to ~/conky_output that you can read it

or launch conky, then type ctrl-c & 'killall conky', but you would have to do it blind.
