Well guys, I saw this on monday but i needed some time for it to sink in. Sorry in advance but this is gonna be a long post. I just wanted to thank everyone for everything they have done. I've tried alot of Linux distros in the past, my first was Ubuntu 12.04, and constantly jumping around from one to the next. I loved everyone i tried, but there was always something more i wanted. Then i stumbled on #!, and from the first look i fell in love. i dont know what it is about it, its just the perfect combination of community, openbox, debian, tint2 and conky. It gave the perfect amount of customization while still achieving what i needed stock. It has been an honor to be a part of this community, and i'm gonna miss alot of the people here. I'm gonna run #! on one of my computers till it crashes, and always keep an install disk on hand. Thanks again corenominal, for creating this community and this amazing distro, and i wish you luck on your future projects. who knows, maybe we'll all meet up on another server someday.
#! forever.

PS: i just wanted to clarify one thing. The reason why i have #! on 5 out of 10 machines right now is not only because it is easy to setup/maintain. It is because after hopping from one distro to the next, #! was the first one that truly inspired me to pick up coding and scripting. not like when i had ubuntu, where i would search through forums and how tos, and take commands and paste them into the terminal. This community drove me to learn about scripting after seeing how fun it could actually be. having people share their conky.rc and tint2.rc, themes, screenshots, everything. Sorry for rambling on, guess im still a little emotional. lol currently in the process of remastering vanilla debian after i tweak everything to make it ressemble #!, and transferring some themes.

If you are able to document the process, it may complement what some of the other guys are doing, and help others in the future.

Yeah, i definatley will. It's getting there. havent messed with remaster too much before. not to mention changing the installer and everything like that. thatll be the hard part for me cause i havent done it before.

Thanks to Corenominal for the distro, and you all for the community, especially the admins. Like many, #! has been a wonderful sweetspot in the world of bigger and bigger distros. Where now we wonder?
I see the donate button is still there, I'll see if I can chuck a few yen in the get the man and his good lady a small beverage.

like many other users , I moved to crunchbang after trying literally 25+ distros. This one , I fell in love with
My home runs on crunchbang..!! except my work laptop which requires windows, every other machine (and I have lot of them) runs crunchbang .. heck I even run pibang as a server on my raspberry pi..
I could not let go this opportunity to thank the creator and team for their awesome work. really appreciate everything they have done and support the decision of the creator. All good things must come to an end ...
Now is the real challenge .. everytime I install debian on laptop / vm , I am going to spend ton of time to configure and make it look like crunchbang ..

Again, thank you very much and wish you all the best ..!!

I am a "silent" user of #!, that's I've used it for some years (5?) being inactive at the forum.
Presumably there are a lot other users like me.
Although I greatly appreciate your work and efforts, also I understand your point of view and decision, I totally disagree with:
I’m leaving it behind because I honestly believe that it no longer holds any value (...), I don’t believe that would be in the best interest of its users, who would benefit from using vanilla Debian.
My road is: Mandrake -> Suse -> Knoppix -> Xubuntu -> CrunchBang
... and I will stay with #! for a few more years.
Thank you for the value you deliverd and good luck with new challange.

Here is something that should help a little in getting other distros to look like crunchbang. All the icons and themes, included in one package, with a installer. waldorf-theme-suite

@SpaceX: I downloaded and attempted install, nothing wrong except my miminal knowledge on installing some distro's. I got to the point where I needed to put login, I used live, then passwd I used live, then I need to add what? There is a prompt for addition info. I am lost. What do I need to type in to have the process to continue. I am really curious what I have downloaded and the work you have done. Thanks -zephyr

I haven't looked at spaceX's theme-suit, but I presume the installer just needs root privileges to install to /usr/share/themes etc. So your username and password should do.

The image should autologin. Perhaps you wasn't patient enough? Boot from the image you created, and wait until you see a full Crunchbang desktop. Even if it stops a little at the login prompt, do not enter anything. Just wait....
When the #! desktop is fully up, then right-click the desktop, and the install option should be in the menu...
Also, it's a good idea to prepare at least one partition in advance, or have one that you know can be overwritten. The installer will format any partition you choose, but the installer will not let you create partitions...
If that doesn't work for you, then report back. Did you get your image by torrent-download, or by direct download from my dropbox?

@SpaceX: will do on the patience end. I have installed distro's with the same bootup screen and entered info at that prompt. My bad! I am really interested to see what you accomplished. I did download the "waldorf themes" and installed nicely per instruction with the terminal. Thank you for the help -zephyr

My favorite distro
Well I kinda felt it was coming, since the last official post was 2 years ago... xD
Anyway Farewell #!
PD: The news about #! end has come to the guys of the distro "Semplice" and they prolly wanna work on a version of Semplice <stable> to try "fill the void" that Crunchbang leaves. Don't know what you guys think... A Debian Stable-based Semplice variant

I have decided to stop developing CrunchBang. This has not been an easy decision to make and I’ve been putting it off for months. It’s hard to let go of something you love. I’m leaving it behind because I honestly believe that it no longer holds any value...
See you around
1. Thank you for your time & dedication.
2. Thank you for your wisdom in seeing the end.

@ SpaceX: I did a torrent download, but do think I got a bad download, which happens. I did give it a while, but also I did use a disk and not USB. I gave it about 15 minutes on the wait, and figured it wasn't gonna install. I will check out your drop box, and I always partition with 3 partitions. I will keep trying, even maybe slave in another disk drive.- thanks-zephyr

Sure. I haven't tested if from cd/dvd myself. Only from usb-stick. Will have to buy some dvd/rw's to test it. But I did test it from usb-stick yesterday, and works fine for me. The dropbox-links are banned by dropbox due to excessive usage, I got off with a warning the first time, but when I reactivated the links, they didn't last to long before Dropbox banned them a second time, and this time permanent.
I have uploaded it to another cloud host, but I need to upgrade in order to share so big images. I could give the link to a few, but then if they shared it any further, I would also get in trouble with my new cloud host, and I don't want that. As I intend to use that host for future projects. But it costs me 10 euro a month to upgrade to 1 TB Bandwidth, and I need something more than just this #!-ISO, to justify the upgrade. When I've put up a website, and have created a distro or remastered something that are more uniqe to me, then I will upgrade
I'm starting with a Ubuntu openbox spin as we speak, from a mini.iso. But it will not be a #!-clone, even though the functionality will be somewhat similar. Let's face it. It isn't possible to create a more functional openbox-menu, than the one in Waldorf. But other lighter apps can be used, and the appearance can be different.

Althought the news are quite sad from one point of view, I'm actually feeling enthusiastic about the future of #!. Maybe now we will finally have a community-driven distro with a constant flow of contributions. If you guys need something to be written in bash, please contact me. I've already done a couple of contributions earlier (1, 2, 3) and I'm also ready to maintain bash-related repos if it is required.

@ sysaxed ... looks like you have had a hand in things. I for one would welcome you aboard ... but unfortunately this is beyond me.

I'm glad to hear that, especially because exactly one year ago I've started talking about some #! issues in this post/thread but was laughed over. The post is quite long, but basically I was suggesting community-driven development instead of the lack of any progress. Well...

@corenominal thanx so much for all the work you've done, and the community you've helped build. i've learned a lot both from how you configured the distro and the community you've bolstered by proxy. i wish you the best of luck in your life and future ventures.
