Hello,
I read this post via tuxmachines: http://www.downloadtube.com/blog/2009/0 … er-kernel/
what is this faster kernel and tmpclear function?
Is it really efficient? is it already used on #!?

I did some poking around, and read through the UltraX website. The descriptions are nebulous at best, but it almost sounds like they are running
a RealTime kernel similar to the one that you can use as an option in Ubuntu Studio or Studio64. Could be wrong there.
The tmpclr script (described as a "cool new script" on the UltraX site) sounds like a bash script that clears the contents of your /tmp folder at shutdown.
Im not sure that for most users purposes a RT Kernel is really needed. Its mostly used in recording where latency is an issue, or in embedded/ engineering applications. I dont think the speed gain would be noticeable. Of course thats assuming that it is an RT Kernel, and not some revolutionary concept that will forever change Linux computing:P
I did think it was pretty funny that on every page at the bottom of the Ultra X website, there was an article describing how Bill Gates is a misunderstood revolutionary. lol.
