Not new to linux but new to the forums

I am not new to linux as i have been using it since 2006. But the past few days ive tried every linux distribution under the sun that would work with my hardware, and also BSD and UNIX, and i gotta say, i like it more than i ever will like windows. I switched back to windows in 09, but switched back to linux pretty quickly for every day use. 5 days ago i downloaded crunchbang and have been using it off and on this entire time.  I had Slackware but messed the install up when installing multilib support. found that out from linuxquestions.org. So back to using debian and debian based distros. I love Debian and Crunchbang.  Linux mint is what i used from 2011 on til recently, that slackware and ubuntu. and then installed crunchbang, because debian doesnt support my hardware as well as crunchbang. And It never has. Thats why i use debian based distros, because they support ralink wireless drivers. That and fedora works well. I love everything about linux, hate everything about windows. I cant even bear to use windows 7 most of the time if i can avoid it. I have to work on windows 7 computers for my job though I'm self employed as a computer tech. and i usually recommend linux, and once they go to it they never want to go back. Been trying to convince my mom to give it a shot, but she likes windows too much. But i know once she got a taste of linux, she would never want to go back, because KDE looks like windows 7 aero, and it will never change the Desktop experience and break it. She already tried this crunchbang install and she was impressed with it.  Her computer got all messed up from a virus.  One of the reasons i originally switched.

Re: Not new to linux but new to the forums

Welcome around.  cool

Crunchbang is just great. I was reluctant to install Linux for friends and relatives with old laptops running desperately slow Win installs on them. But I started doing it lately and I already have a bunch of very happy friends and relatives having their old machines brought back to life. None of them ever heard of Linux before. I started using user friendly distros like Linux Mint or Linux Lite, but now I directly go with Crunchbang. I get better results and happier users. Of course I have to configure it a damn lot more for them than with the former easy distros. It takes a lot of time, but loads of fun for me and better performing rescued machines. My last victim was my own 80 years old dad. He's relieved and surprised finding his laptop booting and running fast and agile now instead of bearing those typical lags and endless waiting for things to launch.
