Connecting to VPN blocks all traffic?

I got an OpenVPN connection set up in Crunchbang, but once I connect, I can't load any webpages, or connect to the internet at all. When I connect on iOS (with L2TP), all my data goes through the VPN, but it seems that the VPN client is blockling all my traffic. I don't see a "route all traffic" option or anything like that in the VPN settings. How can I fix this?
