Cruncheee uses a special eeepc kernel from array.org. It is not designed for other netbooks, only the Asus eee.
Does "regular" Ubuntu work ok on the HP mini? If so, then regular Crunchbang (full or lite version) should work too (and is just as "light" as Cruncheee).
(edit) I just checked http://array.org/ubuntu/index.html for you, and it does list the HP Mini as a supported model, so it might be worth a try.

I'm running standard Crunchbang 8.10.02 on my Hp Mini without a hitch.
