Old Blackbox fan found a home (?)

Hello everyone.

Just dropped by to say hi. I am currently studying the quirks of this wonderful distro. I have a background where i use mostly ubuntu/xubuntu and one lubuntu pc but the Unity debacle of latest years have made me look more around if there is something good to be found.

I also have a fascination for the old Blackbox Window Manager that i used extensively in the earlier 00's along with an old Slackware Linux OS. I have been looking for that kind of 'Zen OS experience' ever since but now it appears it is possible to get the same kind of simpleness combined with the easy stuf from Ubuntu. Dont want to go back to the hardcore days of editing menu files or Xorg.conf yourself.

Re: Old Blackbox fan found a home (?)

I thought the thread was about an old pc-fan for cooling built into a new case. I clicked on it out of curiosity what kind of machine a blackbox is and why this is worth a thread lol -- welcome to the forums!

Re: Old Blackbox fan found a home (?)

Hello XanII!
olen itse turusta ja käyttänyt blackboxia jonkin aikaa. Moi!
i myself am from turku (though not a Finn) and have been using blackbox some time, just before i changed to linux about a year ago.
so that was about 2 years ago, on winxp. some discussion & customization on deviantart. what about you?

anyhow i am new to crunchbang (though i joined the forum already a while ago while looking for advice - great forum, folks!!!) and it looks like i'm going to stay with it.
i will soon be given more "old" laptops tongue and am currently searching for the best lightweight distro to turn them into wonderful machines and right now cb is on top.
[i have this friend who bought a new laptop because the old one, both the fan and the windoze is clogged with dust and debris. lol.]
i particularly like the choice of debian stable although it will take some getting used to, having to use older versions of software i already know. but wtf, iceweasel is just as good as firefox only faster. geany is fast enough to be my default text editor - before i was using leafpad for easy, and gedit3 for more complex stuff. and i can use gedit2 again if i want to!
there is, in fact, quite a lot i like about cb. becoming some kind of linux nerd, i had a brief meeting with ubuntu, but we're developing in opposite directions - me, more into fiddling around, and ubuntu, less into fiddling around.
roll
yes, i'm a Huge Fan!

Thank you people for all your great replies! It's been awhile since i've been here and on any forums for that matter.

I guess i better go check the forums instead of necroposting here anymore.  tongue
