The first time I launch a browser (either Iceweasel or Chromium) after boot up it takes several seconds to open, subsequent launches in the same session seem considerably faster.
Is there anything I can do to make the first launch faster?
Thanks.

I have this too, on Arch with Chromium. Just confirming it's not an error on your system.

The same goes here, first launch is slow (but it doesn't bother me actually

You can install the preload daemon (the package is called preload). It will monitor your activities and put the most used apps in RAM for faster launching. Your boot time might increase a little though.

Thanks everyone.
I gave preload a try but it didn't seem to make much difference.
In the end I installed Epiphany which seems to load much faster than Chromium or IceWeasel.

I haven't noticed any loss of functionality (yet).

Have you tried accessing pages with specific needs, i.e. flash on certain pages? BBC iPlayer, etc., in my experience does not like epiphany in my experience- it thinks epiphany is a mobile phone... you may not use these sorts of websites....
