HI all
Could anyone point me in the right direction for creating a custom x-session with composition...
Basically I have gnome2-panel & docky customised to look like mac osx ( global menu installed etc etc ) but with docky i need composition for it to work properly. Can anyone tell me how or what I should use to get composition working in an x-session :?
Also could anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the global-menu ( file, edit, view etc etc ) from within applications so that the installed global-menu in the panel is the only one accessible !! At the moment I have the global-menu sitting in my panel & it works perfectly but my problem is that that the global-menu within applications still exists !! Is there anyway I can remove this :?
NOTE: I have already tried compiz, but it is generally slow on my computer so that really isn't an option...

^ xcompmgr? cairo-compmgr?
Don't know if it's possible to have the WM/DE bypass an application's context menu (I think that's what you're referring to with "global-menu within applications"?) but I have always considered these to be a good thing, so I've never looked for such a solution.
EDIT: I see this thread opener represents your first post. Welcome to Club#!!

Yea im referring to the context menu as global-menu...
Hmmm im just asking this question because i remember a few years back someone using ubuntu 8.10 i think it was managed to successfully remove the global-menu from within applications & have only one within their panel. Unfortunately i cannot for the life of me remember who the person was or where i even saw it :-( But thanks for suggesting "xcompmgr? cairo-compmgr?" I'll deffinatly have to take a look at both those & see if they could be of any use :-)} Still need some info on creating a custom x-session though.
Haha this is actually my 2nd thread lol. I've been using #! for a month or 2 now :-)} Must say though I completely love it, for the fact that it does everything I need it to do & its faster than most other operating systems that i've tried on this machine.
