linux kernel + microsoft windows flag icon

the linux kernel file vmlinuz-3.2.0-3-amd64, and its link in the / directory, are both shown in thunar with a microsoft windows flag icon. The status bar in thunar identifies the file as a "DOS/Windows executable".

this is occurring on #! waldorf 64-bit.

duplication: install #! waldorf 64-bit, open thunar and navigate to the root (/) directory. you will see it.

UPDATE:
#1: no, i did not install WINE. i also didn't customize any graphics, display settings, etc.
#2: keep in mind this is occuring in #! wheezy 64. i don't recall seeing this in squeeze 32 with/without BPO.

I have it too on Arch, also without Wine installed. The only mime types configuration file I have is /etc/mime.types from the mime-types package.

A quick scan of the contents of it do not tell me why it's getting an MS Windows icon.

You must be using faenza icon set.Faenza icon set has a that symbol.There is nothing wrong here.If you want to change the icon set and look at it.

What fthpl said - it's the Faenza icon set that's giving it the Windows swastika.  Every other icon set I've looked at has a cog & pinion for that mime type.

No idea why executable binaries like the Linux kernel are recognized as "DOS/Windows executable".  Anyone?  Anyone?  "Bueller?"

The correct mime-type of /boot/vmlinuz-* is "application/octet-stream". I also remember Nautilus doing such things on Ubuntu in the past. This might be an upstream problem. Double clicking in thunar opens wine, opening in xdg-open calls exo-open (the thunar mime-type handler). Opening it with mimeo does nothing, as there are no real settings for application/octet-stream on a clean system.

The problem is somewhere in exo-open or in exo's general mime-type configuration. This is, by the way, one of the reasons I uninstalled thunar and all other xfce components: It's not fun using exo outside xfce4.

That's the difference.It is not very important thing.I just wanted to show you.That's what I mean.

I think something has changed in exo/Thunar's mime-type/filetype handling with Wheezy. I have a bash script called "install" which on Squeeze is properly recognized as such, but on Wheezy becomes an "install file" or something which needs its own application association.
