Wireless issues with lenovo E520

I'm new to #! so this might be a simple fix. I downloaded #!, 2.6.32 Linux kernel and X.org 7.5 64bit and I tried putting it on my lenovo e520. Everything seems to be working except for my wireless. Anyone know if there are any compatibility issues or a driver that I'm missing?

Re: Wireless issues with lenovo E520

Welcome to #!
Regarding your lenovo e520 wifi...
Lenovo does change hardware specs so in order to get help regarding your Wifi look at  the results of the Command line

lspci

The last 5 or so lines should have one reference to your Wifi and it's chip.
Then look in the Debian wifi  Wiki for directions.
http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi
...Each Card has a link to a How To.....
If you continue to have problems post the lspci results in a thread for help and you will be helped.

Re: Wireless issues with lenovo E520

Did you just download and install this version? If you don't have much invested yet (not many changes) I'd really recommend that you install the new version (Waldorf) or at least Statler with backports. I have a USB dongle with RTL8188 hardware and it works in Waldorf with no problems.

At least try the live session and see what you think:  http://crunchbang.org/download/testing

RTL8188 is realtek; you will see many posts from people who have a hard time making this work. Just search (use the box at the top right) on RTL8188 and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Wireless issues with lenovo E520

I did a post with someone mentioning Waldorf and that it did work. So I already downloaded it and have it burned. wink I'll install it when I get back.

Great! You'll like it. If it works with your wireless, please mark the thread [solved] (edit the title of your first post).

Re: Wireless issues with lenovo E520

What @Pidsley said  or you could try...
to download and simply unpack it and then place in the /lib/firmware dir
Right here and make certain you get the CE version..for linux
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dow … loads=true

Once the firmware is in the the /lib firmware by copying dir then you can

cd /lib/firmware
sudo modprobe DRIVERNAME
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

should do it..

compare the above to any other How Tos on this item elsewhere in the #! forums

Re: Wireless issues with lenovo E520

Great!!
Sometimes you can tweak and tool configs for hours but the a Fast ReInstall is many times just What the Dr. Ordered.. wink

I don't have Waldorf installed on this Thinkpad to examine the file tree but the Statler here shows no evidence of a r8188ce  or r8192ce firmware in /lib/firmware.
