Spotify for linux, no more wine!

FInaly no more spotify over wine, This is a small guide how to install spotify for linux.

Spotify for Linux

This is a preview build of Spotify for Linux. As a preview release this version is still unsupported, but we're running it ourselves and will try to make sure it keeps pace with its Mac and Windows siblings.

So how do you get it? We've packaged it for Debian Squeeze/Ubuntu.
Debian

# 1. Add this line to your list of repositories by
# editing your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free

# 2. If you want to verify the downloaded packages,
# you will need to add our public key
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 94558F59

# 3. Run apt-get update
sudo apt-get update

# 4. Install spotify!
sudo apt-get install spotify-client

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

ive tried it alot today, and i can say its much more stable and better then spotify with wine.
With wine the software gets drunk, now its seems too good to be true! roll

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

It seems to be working pretty well for me -- and  I can link into the raft of music I linked to on the work Windoze box.

One caveat (and there's probably no away around it): Watching the download -- yeah, that's how exciting my life is -- it seemed to drag in a lot of lib files that it probably needs but at 30-something MB, that's seems a little heavy to me.

I'm working on a despotify x86 package for squeeze that will be compatible with statler

http://despotify.se/

the downside is it's for premium only users.

Is the spotify client only for premium users or can it be used for free users?

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

Does anyone else have a problem with it crashing upon reaching the end of a track? (It does this to me perhaps 1 out of 5 times. Super annoying to say the least.)

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

@plantperson; it has never happened to me either. You could try asking on the Spotify forum, maybe someone there knows something.

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

Spotify is win, i use it alot and sync it across devices, and paying for it allows you do play stuff offline too. Over here i think is $10 or so, eg not much, and almost free.
If you like commercialts.... don't pay for it smile

I've been using spotify on linux for about a year. It's been available for testing directly from the spotify download website for that long. Nice guide though. smile

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH SPOTIFY AFTER THE NEWEST (spotify) LINUX UPDATE

me wrote:

spotify: error while loading shared libraries: libQtNetwork.so.4:

For me with 32bit of the newest waldrof i have to install the libssl0.9.8 as usual.
AND install libQtNetwork.so.4 is in the libqt4-network package.

So just install it from terminal, its in this lib package:
Sudo aptitude install libqt4-network

Hope this will help someone in the future smile

Re: Spotify for linux, no more wine!

I have installed Spotify but get this error when I try to open it from the terminal.

spotify: error while loading shared libraries: libQtNetwork.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I figured it was something I needed to install but an apt-get couldn't find anything. What do I need to do?
