New user here asking stupid question.
Corenominal - Phillip = same person?
Corenominal = #! creator?
Kneel in awe before Corenominal = right thing to do?

Hehe You're quite right

Indeed,
Corenominal = Philip = the "owner" (if you will) of this lovely distro.

Well at first I winced but after looking at it for a while I really quite like it. If anything was to replace the minimal logo we currently have then I think this is a pretty good one. It's simple, easy to scale and represents the same concepts that the original logo does. It might even move us away from the whole shebang-crunchbang argument. I'll be voting yes
Edit: Even though I quite like this logo, in the long run I guess I'm just to fond of the original. Strange, because I'm usually someone who quite likes change. Maybe the debate about the logo's shape is bugging me to, I'm not sure. Anyhow I changed my vote to 'against'

I still say I like these from rfquerin

These also seem like one of the few that truly work well with colour, without being unsuitable for a greyscale like the classic Crunchbang look

Nice one, thank you omns, a great way to get the discussion rolling.
For anyone unaware, Scrat has now published the newsletter, you can read about the new logo in the Artwork section: http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/crunchb … 04#artwork

Now that a final design has been chosen I think it would be best to focus the discussion on 'yes' or 'no' and the reasons why

Disclaimer: CrunchBang has become my distro of choice, and the selection of a new logo will not change that. That being said, I'll pose a question that comes from having spent too many years in the IT world (26 and counting): "what problem are we trying to solve?" For that reason, my vote in the poll this evening was "I'm not voting yet."
I apologize if I am essentially unearthing an already-buried thread. At the end of the day, I will happily defer to corenominal's decision.

Agreed.
As I mentioned in the newsletter, there were lots of fantastic entries, but I could only choose one winning design. For what it is worth, it really was not an easy decision and I would not wish to repeat the process any time soon!
So again, the question is; should we, as a community, adopt the new design as our logo?
It would be good if people would use this thread to campaign for or against.

Now I see...so the thread is: Keep the old or use this particular logo?
Well, as I stated in the competition thread, I personally see no reason to change from the stock use of a simple #!. Wallpapers, logos, etc., can come and go and be enjoyed by all, some or none, but that basic logo, for me, is all that is needed to distinguish CrunchBang from any other Linux distro logo.
In any event, as I also stated in the competition thread, changing the logo would not drive me away from CrunchBang. I don't buy or use products for their flashy or 'purdy' logos.
Vote: Keep original, simple text logo (though I prefer a vertical crunch symbol over the typical italic'esque crunch of most fonts; I also prefer a vertical, straight bang symbol).

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

Okay - I'll get with the program.
I would vote to keep the existing logo for two reasons:
The thinner font of today's logo resonates more emphatically with my inner minimalist.
The redundancy of the crunch/bang symbol/word combination is more intuitive than trying to figure out the new symbol and then mapping it to the CrunchBang name.
Just my two cents - worth far less than this time last year...

I like the proposed new logo, although it's all crunch and no bang. I appreciate the way that it riffs off of the Ubuntu logo in a geeky, minimalist way. And the fact that it can be so effortlessly scaled is another point in its favor.

Hey Guys, esp Coremonical
I do like the winning logo, I prefer the original, probably because I can write it like this... #! in place of CrunchBang for typing purposes, which, I'm sure we can carry on doing, right Boss?
When all's said and done, it's Corenomical's choice, as he made the "distro".
Yes, I think the winning logo is fine.
Just my pennyworth.
[edit] After reading other's opinions of the winning #! logo, I have to change my mind.
I'm not usually this ambiguous! Yes, I am! No, I'm not!
Anyway, I think, somehow, keep #!
The logo competition was not a waste of time if a "winner" is not found. It has been a viable input forum topic for this 'community'. It gets & keeps people involved, showing them they are wanted/needed.
Yes, keep #!
Promise I won't change my mind again - honest Guv!

My bad, I hadn't remembered what the deal was, and hadn't read the newsletter at the time.

I vote old logo, if that's the one chosen from the competition.

Hello everybody. First, since I didn't introduce myself before #! is really great. Thanks a lot.
Regarding the winning logo. Well besides I'd prefer that simple #! over any other suggestion - why this. I am German and my first impression of this logo was 'Hakenkreuz'. While it is pretty different from the Swasika to me it looks like those symbols Neonazi-Organisations use to avoid the forbidden use of the 'Hakenkreuz'.
This may be a very German point of view but maybe you want to consider. I'd be glad to see any other logo instad.

+1 (but lighten up the 'crunch' a bit on dark background)

Well, I wouldn't be worried about that. If you look carefully around you, you should be able to see symbols everywhere !
Besides that the Swastika symbol, in it's original form, has actually no relations to politics at all whatsoever:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika
What I see is a trimmed down Ubuntu logo, but with 4 heads instead of 3
And after all #! is based on a minimal Ubuntu
It's pretty cool IMHO.
I'll definitely go for a yes !

Maybe so, but unfortunately, it is a fact that the swastika is now more commonly seen as a symbol of Nazism - to the point that it is outlawed in Germany and stigmatised in the rest of the world.
Regardless of that, I still prefer the original, (and would do regardless of which logo had been chosen - though they are all impressive)
So I vote no

I've been in India where the Sastika is on every temple and many houses as a symbol of live and joy. However here in Germany things are different. I would definitely not want to be at a customer working with my laptop and he might see a symbol like that white on black background. May be oversensitivity. If its just mine, ok, but I fear at lest in Germany there might be more who see that bad symbolism in this logo.
Whatever - I vote for #! as simple as it is.

I don't see there anything else except quite nice logo.

Deep thoughts of stopie:Sucks that Nazism ruined a religious symbol almost as old as time...and that the world cant get past it - but its probably nessicary to prevent such bad things from happening again...idk, its a bit too deep for a forum
Voting Point 1:However, I too first thought "swastika-ish" when I saw the logo, and becasue the world cant get past the Nazi reference, I think it would most certainly = at least some bad press. And #! is still new, so I would venture to say that it should avoid as much bad press as possible. +1 for old Logo
Voting Point 2: I always enjoyed how the old logo #! reminds me of "#! bin/bash" - made crunchbang seem more "linux" than other distributions to me...I know, I'm crazy. But when my friend mentioned that he had seen "#!" before, and I said "bin bash?" - he got a good kick out of it. +1 for old Logo
Well...theres the thought process...Vote = Nope!
