desktops do not show active applications

Hello,
I just installed CB on an old laptop.
The performance are great.
I see a strange bug:
When I activate an application in a virtual desktop (or "workspace") it is shown in the appropriate place in the panel.
However, when I move to another virtual desktop, the active application is not shown. The panel space associated with the first virtual desktop is just gray (not showing the active application).

I would like to see a minimized view of the application in on that desktop.
Do you have a suggestion for correcting this ?

Thanks,
Eli

Hello Eli smile

Which panel/pager are you using? If it is the current default, lxpanel, then I think what you have described is the default behaviour. It might be worth your while checking out some alternative solutions. I know netwmpager is quite popular: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ger-howto/

Re: desktops do not show active applications

Thank you corenominal,
Apparently this behaviour of the virtual desktops is indeed the default in lxpanel.
I checked netwmpager but it seems to demand too much work for the purpose.
It would be really nice if lxpanel could be configured so that all virtual desktops present a miniature picture inside them, representing the open applications. this is the way it works in XFCE and GNOME.
This little annoyance and the absence of trash-can are about the only disadvanntages I found in crunchbang.

On the bright side, the performance is awesome,  even on a very weak machine, without sacrifice of functionality.
Thanks,
Eli

If you want a trash can, you could use Thunar instead of PCManFM.
