Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Sector11 gave me an idea: would there be any demand for an extended (not only precipitation, but temps as well) hourly forecast?

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Alright... so... This is where the script support is now?  Just... lemme know... okay?

*EDIT*  Yeah, sorry.  That was just a test.  A blurb from the dark recesses of my skull.

It is now me officially asking if this is the new, PERMANENT home of supporting TBG's Weather Scripts?

I need to know so I can update links and such.  And yes, I am the same 42dorian from "Elsewhere" just signing up here.  Just hoping to keep in contact for major updates on these scripts, and to make sure TBG is doing okay.

Thank ya kindly VastOne.  It was me testing something.  Hoping TBG or someone can confirm this as the new permanent home for these scripts.  I left it brief at first so I could add it to my subscriptions here and confirm the links.  Once confirmed I'll be adding/changing the links over at the "Other" forum in my signature and the HowTo.

Ahhh Got ya.

As far as I know, this is the new place and home but TBG will confirm for sure.

Also, head on over to Introductions if you feel up to it for a warm #! welcome!

Too late.  You already made me feel welcome.

I kinda expected the move here from the Arch forums.  I just want to make sure to redirect people to the right place.

Welcome 42dorian; I thought you've lost my tracks after the dustbining of my thread in the Arch forums (see here for an explanation).
Anyway, that's where my scripts reside now; I'm waiting/hoping for your valuable support.

No no.  You never lost me.  I just refused to go to the Arch forums.  Because, quite frankly, I saw their issue with your install base coming before you did, and I DID try to warn you about it.  You skipped on me before I could confirm that I'd still stick with you and give you other contact info in case you needed me.  But, you've arrived here.  I'm okay with it here.  So, issue with contact resolved.

And, to boot, I've updated all the links.  They point here.  It makes no sense to house them at Arch.  They're RTFM types, and you don't have a proper FM to R in the first place.  Your install base has been dependent on you to do things for them all along.  Updates and Layouts included.  That doesn't mix with the "Arch Way" at all.

And, I happen to agree with you about Apple to boot.  I'm a Systems/Tech Support guy.  I have quite a bit of insight into the issue.

ANNOUNCEMENT
New script added. 1d1.1-Accuweather forecast with images for international users with a twist: hourly forecast for the next 16hours.
Treat it with tenderness and affection as it is still very very young.

@Sector11: I haven't forgotten the email you've sent me with some corrections in my bundled conkyrc files. It's just that I'm out of town and I can't access it. The next scripts' update will see your valuable info implemented.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Before I forget:

Reference

There's a problem with Conky 1.8.1-6 where it doesn't run any executables until their first interval.  Previous versions ran the executables at startup and then again at each interval.  1.8.1-6 does not.  Best, for now, is to pin 1.8.1-5 or earlier.

What does this mean for TBG's Scripts?  Well, on startup you will get blanks or "Null" messages until the first interval you gave in your Conky scripts.  The resolution is to step back to 1.8.1-5 until some other solution can be found.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Hi all - I am trying to make something better....using the super-secret googleweather API:

#! /usr/bin/perl

use 5.14.2;
use strict;
use warnings;
use diagnostics;
#add some modules
use LWP::Simple;
use XML::Simple;
#use Data::Dumper; #only for debugging

#declare variables
my @forecast_vars = qw/ day_of_week high low condition /;
my @current_vars = qw/ temp_f wind_condition humidity condition/;
our $count = 0;
our @args;

# get the data from super-secret google weather API and pass it variables:

foreach (@ARGV){
    push(@args,$_."+");
}
my $url = 'http://www.google.com/ig/api?weather='."@args";

my $data = XMLin(get $url);

foreach (@current_vars){

    print $data->{weather}->{current_conditions}->{$_}->{data}."\n";

    }
print "\n";
print "\n";

while ($count < 3){

foreach (@forecast_vars){

    print $data->{weather}->{forecast_conditions}->[$count]->{$_}->{data}."\n";

    }
    $count++;

    print "\n";

}

it's ugly and needs work. (test for spelling, "exists", some switches and the like)

but not bad for an hour's clobbering....

so save it somewhere as <your clever program name here>.pl
./foo.pl Los Angeles, CA

Yeah, suggestions WELCOME!

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Hey, Teo.
I followed you over from the Ubuntu forums with a side trip to Arch Forums.
I thought I would let you know that I think the weather.com is broken now due to the new format of their site. I'm going to try to fix my own but if you get the chance to fix it for everyone before I do would be great.
