I've never been able to enable the quick search bar that Synaptic comes loaded with on #! in any other variety of Debian. Is there a custom script that was made for it, and if so, does anyone know what it is/where to find it?

It's a normal feature of synaptic. You'll need to wait for the files to be sorted before using it. Perhaps that was it??
Any more information will have to come from someone else -- I'm just a user.

I *think* the package you need to install is xapian-something.
Note: this is not a helpful post!!

The packag is apt-xapian-index
sudo apt-get install apt-xapian-indexOffline
It's not unique to CrunchBang; *buntu has had it at least since 8.10. Always wondered what package provided it...thought it was compiled into Synaptic; now I know better.

I've got that, actually. Been looking this up for quite a while. But even installing it hasn't done anything.
I must be missing something...

Is there another command you need to execute after grabbing apt-xapian-index?

I'm not sure if you figured this out... Try updating the index...
sudo update-apt-xapian-index -vfOffline
I also hate to be thought of as "Mr. GUI," but I think if you open Synaptic and then click on Reload first (then wait for that to finish, usually in a couple of minutes), you should have a fully updated library(ies) to choose from.

^ thanks Mr GUI!
make some more posts and you can get your custom title

No, thanks. I'd rather have a title other than "Mr. GUI," but I always seem to be the one pointing out non-CLI solutions.
