Hi, I'm trying to install Redmine from the package manager but it comes out with:
Redmine:
Depends: ruby but it is not installable
Depends: rails but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libactivesupport-ruby (>= 2.3.5)
Depends: libactionmailer-ruby (>= 2.3.5)
Depends: libjs-scriptaculous (>=1.8.2) but it is not installable
Depends: dbconfig-common but it is not installable
Depends: redmine-sqlite but it is not going to be installed or
redmine-mysql but it is not going to be installed or
redmine-pgsql but it is not going to be installed
How do I get around this, I assumed because the software was available in the package manager that it was installable, is there a compatibility issue with Crunchbang and Ruby, Rail etc?
Any help would be massively appreciated

Hi CrazyIvan,
There is a long history of Ruby problems with Debian. For a recap have a look at this article.
Installing Ruby from the Debian repos is asking for trouble. The recommended way to install Ruby on Debian is to use either RVM or rbenv (I personally prefer rbenv). Both can install and manage multiple versions of Ruby from your home directory, which will save you a lot of trouble. They are very easy to set up - the documentation is good.
I would recommend installing Ruby using one of the above and then installing Redmine from source. That should give you less hassle in the long run.
i wonder if i missed the warning
