I decided to make a gun thread just because I want to know if any other crunchbangers like to shoot as well.
So here goes. Let's basically start off with what gun/guns you own, what may be your favorite caliber, gun manufacturer, and ammunition manufacturer.
I know not everybody may legally own firearms, but also I am not sure what gun laws are in every country so mabye enlighten me.
My favorite right now is my .45 Stoeger Cougar. Very well made pistol from Turkey, it is actually the Beretta Cougar exactly, but Stoeger is a subsidiary, and produces it for a few hundred less from Turkey. It comes with the Italian Beretta clips, and is made with Beretta machining in Turkey. Same gun, but for only about $430! I've put about 500 rounds through it in the past month with no hiccups.
EDIT: I'll also post several pictures tonight, can't very well do so right now while at work!

All views and no news?
So I'll self bump and say my favorite ammo is Hornady, although for a great price I just picked up some Czech ammo, Sellier & Bellot, that seems mighty nice.

My favorite Gun is "OFFICER 8 Spielzeugpistole". It uses "little yellow plastic things" as ammo. It has jamming issues very often and if you want to kill someone with it, you have to smack him with gun until it breaks and then slit his throat with one of the pieces. It features a nice little JSG logo btw. Dunno what that means.

Yeah, p120d16y, I'm sure you're not going to find many gun owners on the European side, unless they're Swiss or in their particular country's armed services. Me, I'm from California but I don't own a gun, and since Eric Raymond isn't here, I would guess the discussion might be somewhat limited.
Sorry, man.

We're only talking about guns for sport, not for killing.
Rather, here we would call it "self defense," which is why I do own .45's. For the pure stopping power. It's always loaded with JHPs when it's at home.

No probs. I'm neighboring you over in Vegas, and I do know you guys have stricter gun laws. Although you can own firearms and I know some Europeans cannot at all. That's the extent of my gun knowledge of other countries. I know the Swiss can own their service pistols or rifles, and most are armed there.

We don't do that either. Some people hunt, but that's like 0,01 percent or something. I've never even held a gun.

I thought American's are all about protecting their family from others. Like "That's a good house. Look you could stand there with a flamethrower and make beacon out of guys who are trying to harm your family."
Forget it. I was just making fun of German law's. You are allowed to use these guns with little plastic things when you're 12 (Yeah, but knifes and fire are perfectly fine, lol) and to play Paintball or "real" Airsoft guns at 18. It is also possible to get the permission for real guns but that's complicated.

Sounds complicated, maybe you would care to elaborate for me? I was raised around guns, and personally I believe that to be the problem surrounding firearms. If you don't understand how to operate one and the power it has, then it becomes misunderstood. From a young age everyone should be taught no matter what you never aim a gun at someone, act as if it is always loaded and ready to fire. I won't go into that whole spiel, but I started this thread knowing there are so many from different parts of the world here, and I want to see what eveyone in different countries does...hmm how do I word that...so Europeans don't or mainly haven't handled guns? Germans, UK, who all hasn't shot handguns?
Who is not allowed to own a pistol?
For example, I live in Las Vegas, NV. If I want a gun after I get off work tonight, and I have $3-800 depending on what I want to purchase, I can go straight to the store and walk out with one.

Gun politics in Germany
You at least have to meet these criteria:
age of consent (18 years for rimfire calibers/21 years for higher calibers) (§ 4 WaffG)
trustworthiness (§ 5 WaffG)
personal adequacy (§ 6 WaffG)
expert knowledge (§ 7 WaffG) and
necessity (§ 8 WaffG)
You often have to proof that you need one (sports, your job - such as hunting)
I only fired guns for sport. That is ok as long as there's someone nearby who is allowed to carry a gun (And it must be inside of some building with a special room for that).

in most European countries (Finland sticks out) it's illegal to be in possession of an unlicenced gun. In order to obtain the licence, you gotta be in some kind of law enforcement, security business, a hunter, in a sport shooting club, stuff like that. Even so, it's mostly illegal to carry the gun, it's supposed to stay under lock and key. there are few conuntries in which possession of firearms is protected by the Consitution like in the US. You can't legally go into a store and buy a gun, pretty much anywhere.

i've shot the german H&K G36 as well as a number of smaller caliber guns.
i'd love to try out the british Accuracy International AS50 rifle as well as the russian Dragunov SVD.
unfortunately, germany these days is not the country to support such ambitions.

I've lived in rural New York/New England (USA) most of my life, and I've never discharged a firearm. My dad never taught me, probably because his dad never taught him. It is a skill I would be curious to learn someday, but not a high priority.
For the record, I am vegetarian, but pro-hunting. I believe it is an inalienable right of our species (albeit a right I do not personally choose to exercise).

Ok...Well here in the US there are a few rules. It isn't absolutely easy to get one, but next to no difficulty I suppose. You cannot have any kind of felony, ever. If you ever receive a felony of any kind, you are barred from owning any firearms.
Other than that, when you buy your first gun you must pass a federal background check, supply drivers license, and wait for 72 hours before you can pick it up. After I purchased my first pistol, I can go in there and buy any time, and walk out with it that instant.
@ snowpine, I grew up in Indiana, born and raised. Just moved to Las Vegas for my job last year. My grandfather got his first rifle at the age of 12 or 13, grew up in the deep woods of Wisconsin. My grandfather must own 30 some odd handguns, German Lugers, Rugers, shotguns, everything, you name it. I was raised to have respect for the power of a weapon, and the fact that it is a deadly tool. Anything can kill something, people shouldn't be scared of guns.
I'll admit if you've never shot something like a .45 caliber handgun it has a bit of a kick and is very loud, but a 12 year old could accurately shoot one.

It's illegal to buy guns for someone else here, and if you're going to carry one you must get a concealed carry permit. Without a permit, most states allow open carry here, which simply means carrying on an out in the open holster on your hip.
Also I can keep one in my car, but certain areas depending on the location have varying laws of course. I live in South Las Vegas, I can't carry my gun over into North Las Vegas for some reason, they have strict laws due to crime and serious gang activity over there. It's only 20-30 minutes across town, but totally different carrying laws.
Something like 31-33 states honor Nevada's concealed carry permit though, meaning with a concealed carry I can mostly travel by car around the whole country with a concealed weapon. Anything out of sight is concealed. Hip holster, in the waistband, in a pocket, etc.
The sad thing is, all the gun crimes happen where there are strict gun laws. Chicago just had about 10 gun deaths, gang related over St. patty's weekend, and they have strict anti-gun laws there. No concealed carry allowed. Only criminals then are carrying guns!

I briefly considered getting a small .22 rifle or something when I had a woodchuck invader in the garden. But I opted for a smoke bomb called the "giant destroyer" and gassed it in his hole at night. An effective weapon, but crude and uncivilized.
Much respect to y'all's dads & grandpa's who taught you young!

.22 rifles are nice, cheap, and accurate. I would suggest one.
I don't own one, shot em though.
I'm going to get a $200 .22 pistol very soon.

Meh.
Feasting is fine by me, but hunting as a sport [as in for entertainment purposes and not for i.e supplying food] seems inhumane (and unfair
).
