I faced a strange nm-applet issue. Lan was configured with DHCP and I wanted to configure it with Static IP. I opened nm-applet->edit connections and made the required modifications, pressed save. It gets saved without any problem. I closed the application, restart the connection. But when I checked the ip, the old value is still there. I opened the Nm-applet and the config I just saved is not there. I tried the same for couple of times but it did not work.
Then I killed the running nm-applet, ran the nm-applet with sudo and now the changes I make with edit connections are properly reflected. I guess there should be a admin privilege popup that should given when we press save. I remember seeing that in debian.

i think i had the same problem with Network Manager. i never really bothered to figure out the how and why, just removed Network Manager from my system and started doing the /etc/network/interfaces manually. read here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … upplicant/

The way it works in Debian/Ubuntu is to pop a admin privilege window to ask for password before saving - I think that is the expected behavior here too. I think it need to corrected in the release itself.
As for work around the above answers holds good .
