CrunchEEE & other netbooks

I've installed the standard version of CrunchBang 8.10.02 on my Ideapad S10e netbook. At the time of installing I made my choice between lite and standard and I didn't even think about installing CrunchEEE. Now that I've learned about CrunchEEE I am curious if I should have installed CrunchEEE instead or is there something really EEE specific so that it's not recommended to install it on other netbooks?

Another question is that is there really need for a manufacturer/model specific distro like CrunchEEE or could the next release be something like "CrunchBang Netbook Edition" that would be optimized for netbooks generally? I mean the hw is pretty much the same in these netbooks overall as far as I know. Screen size is more or less same, processor is Atom, intel chipset, intel GMA 950 graphics, etc.)

Re: CrunchEEE & other netbooks

Hello anshi smile

CrunchEee is really only Eee PC specific because it uses the Adam's Array.org Eee PC Kernel and the eee-control applet. You could probably install it on other netbooks, but personally I would probably do as you have and install a regular version before adapting.

For what it is worth, I am sure support for all netbooks will improve in the future. smile

Re: CrunchEEE & other netbooks

Thanks for answering! smile

I think that at least kernel wise CrunchEEE would work also with other netbooks since it says on array.org web site that:

This project was started in June 2008 as a way to simplify the setup and installation process of Ubuntu on the Asus Eee PC, and to provide a method for upgrading to future versions of third-party drivers and stable Linux kernels. It has since grown to span two releases of Ubuntu (Hardy Heron and Intrepid Ibex) plus provide preliminary support for non-Asus hardware (i.e., Acer Aspire One, MSI Wind, Dell Mini, HP Mini, etc.)

I guess it's just the eee-control applet that makes it EEE specific then.

Well, at least for me the standard edition is working very nicely on my ideapad. The user interface of course needed a little tweaking to fit better in the smaller screen but now I'm really happy as it is. cool
