So far, no luck. It's not the module. The driver is recognized and loaded. No missing firmware. Meh, I'm still working on it. I'll bump with an update if anything progresses, otherwise I'm at the forum's mercy, haha.
Hopefully something in that guide from Ubuntu Forums will help.

I had sound problems also.My sound card is built into motherboard but connects through usb slot number 2.
alsa sound driver is setup to load as many cards as you have but only if it finds a card in slot 1.So I had no sound,I commented out that part of the alsa config and my sound works. But I have to be very carefull when I plug any usb sticks or external drives into usb,so it's buggy but I can live with it.
Hope that info helps

add
options snd-hda-intel model=3stackin /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
if it won't work, try
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codeccheck http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation … Models.txt
and then change the options snd-hda-intel model= according to the list.

I'm the one using the computer dev/censor is messing with. I've made the suggested changes in the system, but to no avail, I've still got no sound. I'll keep an eye on this and have dev continue to mess with it

above issued commands require a restart of ALSA (sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-base restart) after each change.
Also check how many cards you have in /proc/asound/card* - if there is a card0 and a card1, let us know.
ls /proc/asound/card*Sweaty lads picking up the soap | I love the new "Ignore user" button

I restarted the computer after each change, and just to be certain I input the commands to restart ALSA and it said no such command exists.
blackbean@814CK845N:~$ ls /proc/asound/card*
/proc/asound/cards/proc/asound/card0:
codec#0 codec#1 id oss_mixer pcm0c pcm0p pcm1p
There was no card1 on there to speak for, so I'm not sure what's going on there? Is there any way to switch the slots the card is in?
EDIT: By the way, I am completely new to Linux, I can get ahold of Dev/censor rather easily to ask questions, but just know that I don't know commands and such.

ok, then
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codec
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#1 | grep Codecplease.

I'm sorry to bother you with something you have tried before. See post #5 - this time there is a little change:
add
options snd-hda-intel model=SEE_LIST_BELOWin /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
This is the list, try the bold options (according to the used codec STAC9205/9254)
ref Reference board
dell-m42 Dell (unknown)
dell-m43 Dell Precision
dell-m44 Dell Inspiron
eapd Keep EAPD on (e.g. Gateway T1616)
auto BIOS setup (default)
so that the line looks like e.g. options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m44 - do this as root, then save and exit.
BTW, I guess dell-m44 will work, so try this one first.

No need to apologize for rendering aid. That was indeed the setting I was changing last time, and I did go through the list and set it to dell-m44 initially and it wasn't working. I made sure to triple check in case I mistyped anything. Perhaps there is another option yet to be explored?

in terminal start the alsamixer application, press F5 to show all channels and unmute/max everything, regardless of what the labels show. press F6 to choose (the other/another) sound card if needed, seems there are two codecs...

can you check its name? the best would be the output of

My sincerest apologies, sir. I made the change, rebooted the computer, and got nothing.

No need to apologize:) Last chance:
if we would upgrade the kernel (liquorix, that is) maybe maybe it would work. if you run the cb-welcome in terminal, you will be asked a few questions, one of them is "Do you want to add the Liquorix 2.6 to your sources list?"

Good luck

Alright, installed it, nothing yet, gonna go through the thread and see what I can't glean from it. I thank you for assistance rendered, and hopefully I can pull something off.

Have you booted into the new kernel? You can check it with uname -a
I just noticed the OP used liquorix already.... in this case we can try the old kernel 2.6.32 I think it is, in the boot menu. Though I doubt that an older kernel would support this....

2.6.32 is the one I've been using before, I believe.
blackbean@814CK845N:~$ uname -a
Linux 814CK845N 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Mon Jun 13 04:13:06 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/LinuxI was using the Zen kernel after you recommended I downloaded it. I had OP wipe all the other partitions he had put on here and I started from 2.6.32. (Or at least what I believe to be 2.6.32, haha.
EDIT: In case of time misunderstandings, I had him wipe all the partitions right before I started posting. Just clearing that up.
