Blogger Dedoimedo has created a "Linux world map" that's pretty interesting/funny. See if you can find #! on the map, which is posted - http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/linux-world-map.html
What do you think - Did Dedoimedo get his geography right?

The "Principality of CrunchBang", I love it!

Pretty inventive, aside from the "Communist Empire" tag which I don't get at all.

that is awesome!!

Whenever someone calls me a computer 'nerd' or a 'Unix-based-system'
all I can think is: You just wait. In a couple of years. I'll be your IT. Then where will you be!

As an ex-staff member of the ubuntu forums I thought it was pretty funny. The ''Rogue State of Mint' made me chuckle as well

Another geniality by dedoimedo. My two favorites the Noob Desert (we all have been there), it was a long road (and a little swim) to the Principality
... the other one is the Forbidden Land of Gentoo
... genius
- closed account - gone to better places -

Now that #! is Debian based instead of Ubuntu, it should have probably gone on the other side of GCEU. Maybe not in the FOSS Channel, but much closer to Debian proper.

I also note that the Principality of Crunchbang consists of two separate islands. I assume that one is The Isle of Xfce and the other is Openbox Island. My question now is - which is the larger of the two? And even if one is larger in size - which is more heavily populated?

Yea, but why "Communist"? The shape of the empire is reminiscent of Russia; and I get perhaps the totalitarian/Napoleonic overtones (Shuttleworth!); but I don't see how, in caricature, Ubuntu is more/less communist than the other distros.

I am pretty sure it is supposed to be quite tongue-in-cheek, I would not waste too much time trying to decipher it.

To me, this is the notion of "Linux for human beings" under the name of "community" strive for personal goals. Dominance over freedom (libre). Equality (same UI [unity - the word itself references community]) for everyone, disencouraging individuallity. UbuntuOne, same idea of unity, centralisation.
Perhaps its just me, but I think the connection is there.

It'll get there, but plate tectonics isn't a fast process...

Of course the Debian Republic is closer to us than it looks on the map: Just sail west across the GNU Ocean. (Unless it's a Flat Earth?)
My biggest beef is our proximity to the Android Sea...
Maybe the two islands of CrunchBang are an allusion to its UK origin?
while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );
We've earned a reputation as a nice, friendly community; please help us keep it that way.

Haha wow didn't know linux could inspire such creativity. Can't do this with windows!
When you are at the bottom the only way you can go is up.

You could do your own personal Windowstree - laden with rotten branches & fruit. (reinstalls)

Is it me? or does the Principality of Crunchbang look like a monkey (face) talking to a squirrel.
Also, "mount chroot" is cool.

I loved how the Gnome Hills divide the Ubuntu Empre from Mint State, how Red Hat Commonwealth shares island with Independent Republic of Fedora! The forbidden land of Gentoo!
Statler: Are you running Mac or PC?
Waldorf: After that... I'm running away!

Mint State should be neighboring both the Ubuntu Empire and the Debian Republic and marked as "disputed territory"

Haha well we're on the map!
TIme to start spreading and conquering land!

Startling news just came in! Aliens invaded planet Linudist - and started some strange terraforming on a couple of islands in the southern Android Sea!
