I've got four OOo templates that I use for ~90% of the times I use OOo.
I've created a section/submenu in my openbox menu that opens OOo Writer directly into my templates. Just add a menu item and then have it execute:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/swriter /home/USER_NAME/.openoffice.org/3/user/template/TEMPLATE_NAME.ott If you use templates regularly this is much faster than opening writer then clicking around to get to the template but lets you keep your templates in the default OOo path.
FHSM: avoid vowels and exotic consonants and you'll get your handle every time. identi.ca
