As mentioned here, I have now set-up a repository for anyone wishing to continue using the Iceweasel 4.0 packages.
To use the repository, simply add the following line to your '/etc/apt/sources.list' file:
deb http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/statler-mozilla-4.0 statler mainOnce added, update APT with the command: 'sudo apt-get update'.
Note: due to potential problems with dependencies, I cannot personally recommend using this repository. Anyone using it does so at their own risk.
Reverting to official Squeeze builds
Anyone wishing to perform a rollback to the stable Squeeze packages should enter the command:
sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get autoremove iceweasel && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get install iceweaselThe Iceweasel 4.0 Beta 9 packages were removed from the standard Statler repository at approximately 08:15 GMT today. Apologies again for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. If you have any concerns about this, please do not hesitate to post a comment.

Good decision! I reverted to the Squeeze Iceweasel. It did work but it pulled in Iceape as well... don't know why...

I am not too sure why Iceape would have been pulled down, but I will keep a note and look out for similar reports.

But apt removed Iceape right away when Iceweasel reinstalled, right?
The reason Iceape gets pulled in temporarily is because apt is being a good boy as another program on your system (like gecko-mediaplayer, java-plugin) is dependent on a gnome-www-browser...

BTW, as the hipsters say, this repo is full of win

^^ It's like hhh explained, only apt doesn't autoremove a recommended/dependent package when an alternative is installed.

Thanks for the Iceweasel 4.0 repository. I've used it since you made it available, and have had no problems whatsoever.
I have previously used Chrome/Chromium and ended up removing it. It was slow and sometimes froze/crashed on my low spec machine.
-1 for Chrome, but no matter with the Iceweasel 4.0 repo.

Hi,
On a Statler install I could not compile a software (couchdb 1.0.2) because of iceweasel beta 4, that's probably normal because of some conflicting dependencies.
To check that iceweasel was the problem I tried compiling it on another statler fresh install without iceweasel 4 and it worked fine.
Applying the rollback procedure proposed by corenominal does still not allow me to compile, same errors appear.
To solve the issue on one of my machines I reinstalled statler keeping the home partition. Has anyone got any idea on how I could do without a system reinstall? I still need to compile the software on the second machine and would like to avoid having to reinstall / configure stuff again.
Thanks.
P.S. : in my case iceape was not installed.

I added this repo, but cant seem to get iceweasel to update from b11 to b12 is anyone else having this problem?
That would be because it doesn't contain b12 yet

@mv, you can view what's in the repo here...

Hello, can we use the mozilla's iceweasel repository as it has the RC version? I am talking about that: http://mozilla.debian.net/

I just tried it. It's working fine. And it seems to be officially debian supported?!

Can't get xulrunner 2.0 installed.
Depends on libcairo (>=1.10.2-1.1~bpo60+1) but 1.8.10-6 is installed.
Libcairo2 1.8.10-6 is on my system, indeed.
There is no version 1.10 of libcairo2 in the repos, just libcairo-gobject2 1.10 and libcairo-script-interpreter2 1.10 in the mozilla.debian.net repository.
Sorry for being a dork, I'm not used to the deb stuff.

That's strange. Maybe try to take the .deb from the statler repo: http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/sta … pool/main/

...
But in statler repo is "only" beta11. In mozilla repo is RC1 already.

Installing libcairo2 from the statler-repository first, and the rest from the mozilla.debian.net repo after that, worked.
The fonts of the browser interface and the web-pages look great now.

Will the new Iceweasel be added to the Statler repo?

My question too for Iceweasel, now that:
- 'Firefox 4 Released!', http://news.slashdot.org/story/11/03/22 … d?from=rss
- 'iceweasel 4 on squeeze?',http://www.linux-archive.org/debian-use … ueeze.html
- Iceweasel version 3.6 only(!) listed for Squeeze at today's http://mozilla.debian.net/
- Old Iceweasel_4.0 RC packages from back in 08-Feb-2011 (b11) listed at http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/sta … pool/main/

actually, http://mozilla.debian.net/ has iceweasel 4
« I am running Debian and I want to install version » [here choose version 4]
You need to add the following entry in /etc/apt/sources.list or a new file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/:
deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ squeeze-backports iceweasel-4.0
You can install it with the following command:
apt-get install -t squeeze-backports iceweasel

@ #1936. The only downside I see with that is that it brings in some unpatched libcairo2 packages which may effect font rendering. At the moment I'm using the Firefox 4 tarball.
Offline
I can attest that the libcairo is unpatched, but thats not something I can't live without for the time being
Offline
@ omn: yes, you are correct, it brings the libcairo2 package from experimental...however i haven't "seen" any problems with font rendering
another possibility, which i've also tried, is getting the libcairo2 from the statler repo (as this one has been patched, correct?)

Yes, you could do that. There are several solutions. I'm using libcairo2 and fontconfig packages from LMDE because they do a nice job. I'm loathed to pin or hold some of these packages just to accommodate this version of iceweasel, hence the Firefox 4 tarball option works well for me
