The older release should work just fine. I had the same issue. The text installer seems to be much more functional than the graphical one included with the newest release.

No, the installer should be able to see USB drives. I have a 4gb usb stick with CB. It was installed in text mode (perhaps try text mode?). The usb stick  showed up in the installer and I installed it as if it was a hdd.

Everyone mentions text mode, but the final iso doesn't appear to have the text install option. The statler alpha does however, and I've used that and it works just fine. The statler final graphical installer is what won't see my usb drive. I suppose I'm done screwing with it since this works. I just want to upgrade the alpha to final now that I have it installed.

The persistent live install is my alternative, and the drive does mount from within the live session. To me it seems like the installer is unable to recognize usb hard disks. This surprises me since most installers see usb hard disks just fine.

I'm looking to install #! on an older computer, but the hard drive sounds like its about to bite the dust. Instead I want to do a full install to an 8gb 1.8 inch usb hard drive (NOT a flash drive).

I figured it'd be no problem, I've done full installs to usb hard disks before. The problem is that the statler installer will not list my usb hard drive to install on, it will only recognize my internal drive.

I've tried this on a few computers and its the same story, the installer refuses to see anything but internal drives (sda). Gparted sees my usb hdd just fine, and I've manually partitioned it to ext4 and a small swap partition.

I suppose the older text installer would have done this, but its nowhere to be found in the newest release. Any Ideas on how to make the installer play nice with my usb hdd?
