So i decided to put linux on my second computer, after having problems with ubuntu i decided that crunchbang might be a better idea, only problem is now i can't seem to boot at all. I added the text command on the kernel line so i could see what was happening because earlier i was just getting a black screen. So after a bunch of text scrolling, it keeps on stopping at

na thats like it but it's not the same thing
I've seen lots of people with the Token icon set from herehttp://browse.deviantart.com/customizat … n#/d24gow2 and I went to download it but if noticed it's not like a normal icon set, it doesn't have a theme.index file and it's pretty much just a bunch of .png and .ico. So anyone know how to install this?
either ncmpcpp or rhythmbox
Yes, that was very useful, but i'm just wondering what would be the command for like play/pause music and next track?
I hava an acer aspire 1690 laptop outfitted with a fn key and multiple shorcuts to go with it like fn+upkey increases the volume and fn+end goes to the next song. Now all theses commands worked with ubuntu out of the box yet with crunchbang non of them work. I have no clue how to set these up so any help will be very helpful
Is it possible to change the lock screen? i just find the screen with a flame is so boring and thought it would be cool if I could like at least change the background. is this even remotely possible?
Yeah i agree with all of you. It's much faster to navigate with a command line (as long as you type fast) and especially with terminator you can do much more tasks at the same time.
I was just thinking today about how it's kind of weird that most expert computer users today tend to just use less and less stuff, like only a command line. I find this quite funny because when computers first started, it was all about making them better and better and making them look amazing and be simple to use. I just felt like pointing this out and seeing if anyone has some comments about this.
Again I made a stupid mistake.. I accidently turned the output on twice thus turning it off
Ive started using the ncmpcpp client for mpd but when i make it play a soung there is no audio whatsoever. I have no clue what could be causing this so anyone have any thoughts?
Oh now i fell stupid
Not sure if anyone knows about ncmpcpp. But I can't seem to get it to work. Like I've got it up and running and stuff but even though in the config located in the ~/.ncmpcpp/, whenever I go to the browse window nothing pops up and whenever i go to the tag window it says mpd_music_dir not set even though i clearly did:

##### music visualizer #####
##
## Note: In order to make music visualizer work you'll
## need to use mpd fifo output, whose format parameter
## has to be set to 44100:16:1. Example configuration:
## (it has to be put into mpd.conf)

## name "My FIFO"
## path "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
## format "44100:16:1"

## visualization and sound as currently there

##
#
#visualizer_output_name = ""
#
##
## Note: Below parameter defines how often ncmpcpp

## Note: You can see whether your ncmpcpp build

##### song format #####
##
## for song format you can use:
##
## %l - length
## %f - filename
## %D - directory
## %a - artist
## %A - album artist
## %t - title
## %b - album
## %y - year
## %n - track number (01/12 -> 01)
## %N - full track info (01/12 -> 01/12)
## %g - genre
## %c - composer
## %p - performer
## %d - disc
## %C - comment
## $R - begin right alignment
##
## you can also put them in { } and then it will be displayed
## only if all requested values are available and/or define alternate
## value with { }|{ } eg. {%a - %t}|{%f}
##
## Note: Format that is similar to "%a - %t" (i.e. without any additional
## braces) is equal to "{%a - %t}", so if one of the tags is missing,
## you'll get nothing.
##
## text can also have different color than the main window has,
## eg. if you want length to be green, write $3%l$9
##
## available values:
##
## - 0 - default window color (discards all other colors)
## - 1 - black
## - 2 - red
## - 3 - green
## - 4 - yellow
## - 5 - blue
## - 6 - magenta

## - 9 - end of current color

## - a - use alternative character set

## If you don't want to use an attribute anymore, just put it again, but

##### columns settings #####
##
## syntax of song columns list format is "column column etc."
##
## - syntax for each column is:
##
## (width of column)[column's color]{displayed tag}
##
## Note: Width is by default in %, if you want a column to
## have fixed size, add 'f' after the value, e.g. (10)[white]{a}
## will be the column that take 10% of screen (so the real column's
## width will depend on actual screen size), whereas (10f)[white]{a}
## will take 10 terminal cells, no matter how wide the screen is.
##
## - color is optional (if you want the default one, type [])
##
## Note: You can give a column additional attributes by putting appropriate
## character after displayed tag character. Available attributes are:
##
## - r - column will be right aligned
## - E - if tag is empty, empty tag marker won't be displayed
##
## You can also:
##
## - give a column custom name by putting it after attributes,
## separated with character ':', e.g. {lr:Length} gives you
## right aligned column of lengths named "Length".
##
## - define sequence of tags, that have to be displayed in case
## predecessor is empty in a way similar to the one in classic
## song format, i.e. using '|' character, e.g. {a|c|p:Owner}
## creates column named "Owner" that tries to display artist
## tag and then composer and performer if previous ones are
## not available.

Yeah I didn't really like arch. But that was mostly cause it took a lot of work to get it to be fully compatible with my laptop.
Another option would be to install the new lxappearance, which supports mouse themes. There's no .deb so far and it isn't in the repo's yet. There is, however, an .rpm available which you can convert to a .deb and then install.
To do this, firstly install alien to convert the .rpm to a .deb file:
sudo apt-get install alienThen, get the .rpm from here:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buil … dID=200246Now go to the folder where you've downloaded the .rpm and open a terminal from there. (Or open up a terminal and cd into the folder). To create a .deb, run:
sudo alien <nameofpackage>.rpmNow open the .deb file with Gdebi and off you go!
Thanks that worked perfectly. I would of tried the other option but this one just same way easier in the long run.
I downloaded a cursor theme from gnome-look.org but i'm having lots of trouple installing it. I extracted it to /usr/share/icons folder and then i ran sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme but the theme I had downloaded did now show up at all. I googled around but I can't seem to find anything about it. Anyone know how to properly do it?
Well I just finished installing #! on my laptop. I'm a somewhat intermediate linux user and I was looking for something a little harder then Ubuntu but easier then something like arch, and that let me to crunchbang. So far i'm loving it especially how fast and customizable it is. So Hello, I'm Foxhead
