#1 Help & Support (Stable) » Help with Sabnzbd, Sickbeard etc » 2014-04-06 07:19:53

Hi everyone,

So I've made the jump from Ubuntu on my server back to Crunchbang. Have to admit that I didnt think I would find it this hard to make what seemed like a small jump! That said, its also very rewarding!

Anyhow, I'm trying to establish the best way to install Sabnzbd, Sickbeard and Couchpotato. My server runs headless, so they need to be able to run all the time.

Can anyone give me any pointers at all?

Thanks

Nick

So, after installing the xfce Statler on main laptop, I now love it.

I am lucky enough to have a Samsung NC10 netbook too, which i installed Peppermint on as a lightweight system with Prism, which i fell in love with.

But, im not too big a fan of Peppermint now that i have got used to #!

Ok, so my question is, does anyone know how to install Mozilla Prism on crunchbang i686?

i know im asking alot of questions recently but i just love this distro!

Cheers

#3 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » Intel dual core, will 64bit or i686 be better » 2010-09-19 16:22:33

Many thanks. I have 3GB of RAM, but may go back to 32 bit so as to avoid installing 32 bit libs for some apps i want to run on my 64 bit machine.

Cheers

On my main install, Statler xfce uses about 130MB of RAM at startup, but on my virtualmachine the i686 openbox version uses just 60MB.

Does this mean that in theory i would get better performance from the i686 optimised version?

Many thanks

Hi there,

I installed openbox statler version yesterday and liked it, but thought i would try out the xfce version too, so reinstalled using this disk. I have noticed though that when i open file manager, despite only 280 MB of my 3GB RAM being used it seems to hang an awful lot, on a 64 bit relatively new machine. Is this normal with it being an Alpha 2 (not used crunchbang before this).

Other than that, really like it, and love the right click. Really torn with XFCE or openbox. I dont like the xfce icons, too cartoony, but the menu system is easier, and openbox looks cleaner.

Great work by the way, im a convert.

#7 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » Crunchbang main distro partition scheme, & Vbox Blackberry USB » 2010-09-16 08:08:19

Thanks for the replies and the welcome!

I did it, i installed it last night, Statler openbox 64 bit. I have an intel dual core processor, just wondered if people thoguth it was better to use the i686 or the 64 bit versions for such a machine (3GB of RAM), fo surfing, video watching etc.

I tried installing virtualbox PUEL using GDebi but picked squeeze, and got an error in red text on the installer. Then i tried using lenny, but it said a newer version was installed, but no option to choose it sigh....

I installed the linux headers for amd 64 to get auto kernel updates, and now i need to work out how to remove the old v box and install properly!

I love getting to grips with a new distro.....:)

I might just go to xfce though....

Hi there,

Usually i would make a post in the new user forum but thought it best to combine the 2.

I have used Debian for a while but see Cruncbang as the distro i have slimmed my Debian down to be, but with less work for me to do!

I just spent a while re partitioning from my old setup to add a dual boot with XP so i could use my blackberry on XP. I dont want to do this though, and would much rather just use XP in a virtualbox if i can to achieve the same. Does anyone know if you can sync your Berry on crunchabang host using XP in virtualbox?

Also, if i dont dual boot i will re partition before the install of crunchbang. I used to have as follows:

/boot      200MB  EXT2
/root         20GB  EXT4
/home       30GB  EXT4
/userfiles 195GB  EXT4   (for storage of all media, music, TV shows etc)
swap       512MB

The main reason was to have /boot as no journalling EXT2 (was told to do this) and to allow all partitions to be EXT4.

What partition setup would you suggest.?

I mainly surf, watch stuff and manage my ipod. I like the extra media partition to llow me to reinstall root and home without losing my files.

Many thanks!
