That sounds like the next logical step. Don't worry I'm not ready to give up on my linux experiment quite yet. I just need to figure out a way to burn the iso for 8.10.02 since I can't get my DVD burner to work. Papparonny thank you for the help, hopefully this the new release will fix my problem.
I put the live CD in and was going to boot up with it as I stated before. But before I could do that I checked one more time in file manager, and of course this cd SHOWS up. BUt when I click on it gives me this error
"unable to mount device"
"The volume "crunchbang-lite-8.10.01" uses the iso9660 file system which is not supported by your system"
I'm sure that is what the error "UNA...VICE" is also. So what file system should it be?
/media/cdrom is a link to /media/cdrom0. I'm starting to wonder if it is my DVD drive? I'm going to boot up and run off my live cd, then see if I can see the drive.
ok I right clicked on media and then prop.
I think it is a link? it has a little arrow on it. It also is root:root
ya there is only one. I just tried to remove the extra line but still no good
My media has three, cdrom, cdrom0, cdrom1 and my dev/scd0 is the same as yours.
no luck with a DVD, audio CD, or data CD
Sorry, it is a burner. I tried what you put up anyway just for the hell of it and I got the same error. I also tried rw, but also no good. I don't know if this will help but I used dmesg | tail and got this
[ 3047.866440] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[ 3047.866457] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[ 3047.997820] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[ 3047.997842] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[ 3048.002446] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 8
[ 3048.002461] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1
[ 3048.002468] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 2
[ 3048.002474] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 3
[ 3048.009317] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[ 3048.009336] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
if nothing else I'm starting to get the hang of navigating the terminal
OK I fixed the typo and changed auto to udf. here is what I have now.....
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sdb1
UUID=1573c6ca-0641-440c-a631-64807dd7abf8 / ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sdb5
UUID=e662b4de-8148-4ce4-8ed9-ef676115ca8e none swap sw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9960 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
/dev/scd1 /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
I still get the same error when I try to mount the DVD rom....
block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
I checked the permission for /dev/scd0 and it is read/write for owner and group. What should it be?
Good catch I'll fix that when I get off work. I actually started with what you wrote
"/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0"
I was trying some diffrent things last night, and what I put up is what I had before I gave up and went to bed
I see have a few lookers but no biters
Well after diggin around the web for a couple hours I found that maybe my fstab file is not configured right? Here is a look at it
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sdb1
UUID=1573c6ca-0641-440c-a631-64807dd7abf8 / ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sdb5
UUID=e662b4de-8148-4ce4-8ed9-ef676115ca8e none swap sw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /meida/cdrom0 auto,iso9960 user,rw,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
/dev/scd1 /media/cdrom1 auto,iso9660 user,rw,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
I also tried to manually mount it and this is what I get
bryan@bryan-desktop:/etc$ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0
[sudo] password for bryan:
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Any help would really be appreciated.
I have been running #! for about a week and didn't even realize my LG DVD-Rom was not working! I used this drive to load #! so it was working. There are three CD-rom folders in my media folder, I assume that this is where I go to find the data that is on the disk? They are all empty. When I try to open my media directory from the tree on the left of the file manager I get a little window that says "UNA...VICE" I close this and I get it again, I close it a second time and I get a window that says "directory doesn't exist". I'm not sure what to do, I'm a linux newbie so any help would be appreciated.
