Thank you all, I will try to do this.
As far as I know the answer is no. When you decompress a package, it sends the files to pre-determined places.
What you suggest will give you space but when you unmount /media/disk your packages will not be available. Also, you stand a fair chance of breaking Linux in the process due to the other files stored in Linux.
Can you not free up any space on your drive? Or use a tool to resize the partitions?
The trouble is that I only have 4Gb (eeepc 701)
Just thinking a bit more, if I do this the system won't be able to see what is in usr. Is this not going to create havoc?
So in short, I need to do:
mount /usr /media/diskthen fire up synaptic
install what I need
and I am finished, is this correct?
I know, this is a bit weird.
Basically I have installed the new Crunchbang on a eeepc and need to install packages on it (fpc and Lazarus) but don't have quite enough space. Can I install those packages on a SD card that would stay all the time in the computer?
Assuming it is a yes, how can I do this?
I haven't been very active on the forum but 8 months on and I am still using #! as my main OS. Although I am not a geek, it works very well for me and I haven't yet managed to make it crash!
Now I need to decide what to do in October....
mmmmhhhhh
I think that I am running in circle chasing my tail.
There are lot of dependencies, I have started installing them by hand one by one. Nevertheless there seem to be some incompability as one insist on uninstalling a package I need.
Namely qlandkarteGT needs libgdal and libproj0
but when I install libgdal it uninstalls libproj0.
What can I do?
I don't know if this is down to beginner's luck, but I've installed open office 3 with the package manager (just impress though)
Thank you all!
That is great!
The fact that if it is for a different version of Ubuntu does not matter!
Hello,
I would be keen to install Qlandkarte GT on my system, I can only find it there: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/qlandkartegt
Does it mean I have to build it from scratch? I have never done it, is it difficult?
Thanks
Y
Hello all,
I have been using crunchbang for now 3 weeks and I like it!!! My only real Linux experience before this was the one bundled with the eeepc and I am wondering why I haven't switched earlier!!!
