As the previous poster stated, Unison is a powerful tool for synchronisation. It works flawlessly between my #! Laptop, NAS and iMac at work.

Unison can sync over SSH and comes with a bunch of other options (ignore/include paths, solve conflicting files etc.).
Personally, I don't like passing all my private data to a Dropbox server, so the solution to sync via own NAS was my favourite. It took me some time though to set up unison properly.
It is necessary to install the same version on your NAS and the clients (if you don't want to sync just one way). Assuming your NAS is always up, your clients can sync to it whenever you want (as a cronjob e.g.).
