Always ask auntie google (or auntie duckduck) before you ask on the forums --- at least 7852 other people will have already asked the same question...
EDIT: & welcome to #!
Thank you 7852 times!
I am a big fan of using the aunties, especially miss duckduck. One of the first things I do on a clean install is to make it the default engine.

Thanks, these searches now have their own shorthand i my browser.
Thanks for the fast replies.
@jdonaghy
Thanks a lot for the welcome and the commands.
The first thing I did after the install was to run the welcome script and it ran both "apt-get update" and " dist-upgrade", just ran them to confirm it.
@ohnot
Thank you for you reply though I believe I wasn't clear enough in my original post.
I already installed it and am currently using it on my stationary, the laptop is just something I might do in the future since I don't need it at the moment.
My PC is hooked up to a TV that I use as the monitor and speakers through an HDMI cable. Currently I have no sound even though the sound controls are registering it and none of the available settings are through this interface.
The advice I was asking for was just general user advice, useful things that I probably wouldn't know about since I am new.
Thanks again for taking the time to try and help me.
Greetings!
I must admit that I know way too little about Linux and I decided it is time to change that. I am currently running it on my stationary that also runs Win 7 and I am planning on installing it on my old laptop in the hope that it will run better. I have read a few articles about common commands and I ran the welcome script, though I don't really know where to go beyond that. I guess the first thing should be to get the proper drivers so that I can get the sound working through the HDMI.
Before I go looking through the forums for the answer, do you have any beginner advice? (indispensable commands/software)
Happy #!-ing!
