ok, i will do it tomorrow if the moderator leaves the chat open. May be it will help somebody else.
yeah, in ubuntu an mint works better. It also lets you to install the catalyst control center. But as you say not as good as in windows
good night and thanks
when i check the graphic card, it says it is installed and redendering:
glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: ATI
server glx version string: 1.4
so, it just can't get better performance. I just wonder why in debian based distros it works better
Looking through your posts
i tried to install the .run downloaded from AMD website, but i dunno why, in debian it can't be installed. I had no problema with ubuntu and mint.
I assume you made an ubuntu package then tried to install it in debian. You should just install what's in the .run file without making a package first.
No, i always install the .run file
in debian when i try to install that, it says that i need some packages to complete the installation and then stops. I found the modules to install but still don't work. I think i tried everything.
the only think that does not crack the system is what they say in the debian.org website. But i still have very poor perfomemce and high temperatures.
thanks for ur interest
No please, don't go!
We need your questions, they make us feel worthwhile!
What will we do without you?
Why @idopissingthechicle? Why? Why?
[sobs uncontrollably]
don worry ¡¡ life goes on ¡¡¡
To the OP, what I would suggest is using an Ubuntu derivative with a lightweight desktop. People have tried to help with the issues you're having, but a close-to-Debian distro can involve more setup hardware-wise as you've found, and there is probably something out there that is closer to your needs and the amount of work involved to get there.
yeah, there are some posts that try to offer some solutions. But no one works very good for me. And i follow them step by step. Most of them just cracked the system. But with another one you can reduce a bit the heat of the laptop and config your graphic card.
I did these rules given by the guys of debian step by step ¡¡: https://wiki.debian.org/es/ATIProprietary
whenever i have installed the 13.1 pack of ATI in other distros, everything was ok. But, i dunno why, in debian ( and crunchbang) tryng to configure the GPU is like hell
Thanks anyway
I've tried, but i am bored. I just want a OS. nothing else. Not deal everyday with high temp problems. Just to have an OS that works fine with my hardware..
no one has helped me with the configuration of ATI card. Nothing that people says in the forums really worked for having a good performance. No answers actually
thanks anyway guys. ¡¡¡
hi again. I have a Radeon HD 4**** series so my problem is similar to yours. The process i posted above worked for me.
Without a driver for the graphic card, my PC with youtube was in 65-75 C, and 53-56 in idle
Now whith the driver installed, when it´s at full work it does not increase above 62-65 C, and 47 in idle. The normal temperature in these hardware.
But anyway in windows works better. More quality in HD, beter control of brightness, less temperature ( with flash, youtube, ·D acceleration, never more than 60 C, and also no problems with suspend mode.
I´m tryng to leave windows, but linux is ver hard for people without knowledge of computers.
but i must say, that with linux mint or ubuntu with a kernel below 3.5 , downloading the drivers from the AMD website and just bashing them and rebooting, it works very good (except 3D acceleration graphics: very poor performance. Whenever i have to work with 3d programs, i am forced to return to the windows partition..
) . With debian or crunchbang is another story. More difficult for newbies to get a good peformance even with 2D graphic acceleration..
but at least you can get your laptop not to heat very much with, for example, the solution i posted above
people offers you many difrente solutions. The most of them just crashed my graphic environment. bUt some of them works more or less. Still haven´t found the final solution to get a 100% performance as i have with windows..
Hi, i had a similar problem...
when i tried to install directly the propietary drivers found in the AMD website ( in our case the 13.1 package) the installation did not work as it said that system neede some files.
Then i checked this website...
https://wiki.debian.org/es/ATIProprietary...( in spanish, check it in english)
nstalación
Debian 7 «Wheezy»
AMD Catalyst 12.6
and it worked. Otherwise, without that drivers, your laptop will burn as hell. At least it was my problem
the problem is that it works more or lass, it doesn´t reach the 100% os the performance. I have some problems with brightness, not full resolution, and suspend does not work in my case.
if anyone has a solution for this ¡¡¡
Bu with debian you cannot install directly the propietary drivers.
sudo aptitude install fglrx-driver fglrx-control
sudo aticonfig --initial -vAlso it's hard to diagnose either issue without logs. Both of you post outputs of
sudo grep -r hiber /var/log
thanks, but that was not the solution.I tried that with another distos and debian, but the system messed up.
The only that worked for me (in debian) was:
i had to give permissions for:
# Paquetes adaptados para Debian 7 «Wheezy»
deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-backports main contrib non-free
and then
# aptitude update
# aptitude install linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,')
# aptitude -r -t wheezy-backports install fglrx-legacy-driver
in other distros, i had to download de .run package of AMD official website and bash it. It was better as it also installed the amd catalyst center. So in other distros my graphic card works better than in pure debian.
In pure debian you must have more knowledge and prepare the kernel before install the propietary driver
so they left the solution here: http://http.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-backports main contrib non-free. It does everything except install the catalyst control center ( i suppose)
ATI cards are always a problem with linux
at least i can hibernate with pm-hibernate.
the problema with suspend comes from de Graphic card for sure. If i get the catalyst control installed in any disribution of linux, i never have any problem. Bu with debian you cannot install directly the propietary drivers. It's very dificult for newbies and you musy follow the path it's described in the link above.
I was in linuxmint before i decided to step away to debian and crunchbag. It's much more difficult to configure the hardware and the final settings. But if so, i rather prefer these distros: more simple, fast, almost minimal. And a good way to learn something when you must deal with all these problems..
pd: sorry for my english, i am not a native speaker..
hi, i have an ATI card radeon...ehen i suspend crunchbang i t does not wake up later. The screen is black and i can't do anything. The pc does nothing.
I have tried everything that you posted in the forum, but it does not work. To install the ATI drivers i foollowed the guide in debian.org https://wiki.debian.org/es/ATIProprietary#configure
and the system do recognize now the graphic card. But i have a problema when i try to awake after suspending the pc.
¿does anybody know how to solve that problem?
thanks a lot
Ho, i have readt some topics about this but no one solved my problem
i have an ati card, so you know this is always a big problem in linux. When i try to wake my pc from suspend my screen goes black and there is no response to any command i type: ctrl+alt+ft, etc...NO ONE, so i have to press the shutdown button.
I know this is a problema with my video card
i tried to install the .run downloaded from AMD website, but i dunno why, in debian it can't be installed. I had no problema with ubuntu and mint. So, i found in the debian.org page a way to get a driver for my card....
i will follow later...
