CrunchBang Linux

I just installed the latest version of Crunch, love it. I have never used openbox DE before, so I thought I will give it a try with debian. I am trying to config tilt so that the tray is left center vertical, and I would like to invert the indicators so that they are the top of the bar. Here is a screenshot:
Also, this is unrelated, but my text is a bit buggy. I have had this problem before with debian. Some characters are... "patchy." How to fix this, if you understood the question? Where are options for low-level config of font?
