@photonucleon

This will not work. I did what you said and rebooted my system. If I edit my rc.xml from the "right click" context menu geany will open the file. I added a screenshot http://postimg.org/image/5emkwe7ll/34b58db1/ subl is sublime and the system path works great.

$ which subl
/usr/bin/subl

@iann

This where my next question, how I can do this. Thanks works great, now I can open *.txt files and other files with sublime from thunar as default.

Hello.

Its my first time at #! and I'm so happy with it. There is one thing I don't like this is geany. I changed the hot key at my rc.xml from openbox.
But how can I change it system wide? I'm using sublime and want sublime as my default editor, but each config file at the "right click" context menu will open
in geany.

I looked into my update-alternatives --config editor but this is not what I'm looking for. So where is geany as default editor configured?

Output from  update-alternatives --config editor

There are 2 choices for the alternative editor (providing /usr/bin/editor).

  Selection    Path               Priority   Status
------------------------------------------------------------
* 0            /bin/nano           40        auto mode
  1            /bin/nano           40        manual mode
  2            /usr/bin/vim.tiny   10        manual mode

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:
