I think the biggest advantage to having a PC with decent specs, even if all you do is browse, etc, is that it will last you a lot longer before you need to upgrade. For example, the machine you listed there will probably be good for another 10 years.
I like to take the opposite approach, and buy a really cheap computer every few years. You don't have to worry as much about waiting for a component (HDD?) to fail, and as far as Linux goes, you can rack up a few usable "dinosaurs" really quick. Then again, I really like finding uses for small, headless, specific-use servers on my home network.
It seems like #!9.04 had vim installed with the python omnicomplete compiled into vim. Now on statler I am having trouble getting that to work. I tried compiling my own vim7.2 (./configure --enable-pythoninterp). This still gave me problems with omnicomplete. What happened to the vim that I had before?
