#1 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » Booting from SD using Symlinks? » 2013-07-30 11:55:54

Thanks for the quick response.  In addition to the /home directory, I was thinking of moving the /user/share folder - do you see any problem with that?  That combination would buy me over 1GB.

I tried to copy over the /home directory and had issues with the existing symlinks (like the link in /images to the wallpapers under /share), then I realized that the SD is formatted as VFAT, so I'll need to reformat.  Once I move the directory, will I need to recreate the pre-existing symlinks?

Thanks, again.

Quick update for those interested in revisiting the old Tablaunch bar.

I found a good summary of all the command line configuration options (also available with the --help option): http://noforum.de/dotpups/tablaunch-doc/readme.html

Here is the old default #! tablaunch startup command from autostart:  tablaunch -x 20 -fg "#6B696B" -pfg "#FF9A08" -sfg "#FFFFFF" -bg "#000000" --pulldown 0 -t -r -d 2 &

This post from the Puppy Linux forum provides an example of the /home/.tablaunch config file (line entries include: label | command | icon) -  http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=3892

I'm not sure if the binary is still available in the #! repositories (I still had the deb file): tablaunch_0.6-crunchbang1_i386.deb

An oldie but a goodie...

Not sure if this is the right spot to ask this question; but here it goes...

I'm running #! on a Dell Mini 9 with a 4GB SSD.  As you can guess, that leaves me limited on drive space after install.  Given that this netbook does not have a camera or bluetooth, I don't feel it worth investing in a larger SSD; so, in the meantime of saving up for a nice new ultrabook to replace it, I was thinking of ways that I might extend the performance of the mini.

I know that the Mini 9 will not boot from the SD card (and it would probably be slow if it could); but does anyone know if there is a way to make sure that my 16GB SD card gets mounted during boot, and at what point in the sequence, so that I can symlink a good portion of the FS onto the card?  Any opinion on which folders would make the most sense to symlink to gain space without sacrificing speed too much?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I know that I'm probably in the minority, but I've always liked the Tablauch dock/bar.  I've continued to install it on every update to #! since, what was it, 8.03.

Well, I just upgraded to Waldorf, but stupid me failed to save my .tablaunch configuration file.  I basically used the original #! config file from the repositories; but I can no longer find the old post regarding tablaunch that had the link to the file included.

Does anyone know if the config file is still floating around, or does someone have a copy saved somewhere.  Any help would be appreciated (as the documentation for tablaunch is quite lacking; but I still have a soft spot for this minimal bar).

I have always historically used it in just the tab mode; but may try icons this time around.  Let me know if anyone can help.

Thanks...
