pvsage: Thanks for the suggestion, it allowed me to find this: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … e-writing/ (to disable the touchpad conditionally in real time). Implementing it seems to have solved my problem (just did about 15 minutes of heavy text editing with no sign of the issue).

thil77: Thanks for thought. In autostart.sh it looks like it is already disabled because this is what I find:
# Launch clipboard manager
#(sleep 1s && parcellite) &

pvsage: I generally don't use the mouse at all when I'm editing, preferring to navigate with the keyboard. However, it is possible I'm inadvertently touching the mousepad as I type. As a test I'll try and figure out a way to disable the mouse pad and only use an external mouse and see if the problem goes away. One downer is that the random insertion point is sometimes not showing in the window (viewport) which makes it less likely that its the case that the touchpad is getting in the way. Thanks.

Anyone else on this thread experiencing a copy/paste bug like I posted as a separate topic here?:

When I paste text it is sometimes not pasted at the caret (cursor) but at some other random position nearby. It happens in Leafpad, gedit, and in textboxes in Firefox. Very annoying.

I have CrunchBang installed on a Eee PC 1005HA. Everything runs well after a few tweaks, drivers, etc. I've been using it for a couple of months but have this problem that's been with it since day one.

If I ctrl-Z (undo) the wonky paste it is properly undone and my caret is moved to the nearby random position. I then have to cursor back to the correct position to paste which always works the second time. If I moved the caret around and do another copy/paste its wonky again. Its like its lost track of the true caret position at the operating system level, not the application program level (since its a problem with multiple applications).

Anyone else have/had this issue? Anyone know of a fix?

I searched the forums but I don't see any mention of it.

You're welcome capillotraktor. I haven't tried Mint but CrunchBang is working well for me except for one thing: Sometimes when cutting/pasting in the text editor the text is pasted in the wrong spot, i.e. not where the cursor is. I've switched from the default text editor and the problem remains (but is much less frequent) - annoying!

I had a devil of a time figuring out how to get my 1005HA to boot from the USB flash drive so once I figured it out I decided to document that here. My photos are without copyright so feel free to use them.

1. Getting machine to recognize USB flash drive: insert the USB flash drive (memory stick) while the machine is off. In other words, the stick must be in the machine before starting the BIOS SETUP UTILITY.

2. Start the BIOS SETUP UTILITY: continuously press the F2 key after turning the machine on, until the BIOS SETUP UTILITY is up on screen.

3. Set your USB flash drive as the default hard disk: on the 'Boot' menu (fourth item across the horizontal menu bar) select 'Hard Disk Drives'.

Then select your USB flash drive as the '1st Drive'.

4. Set your USB flash drive as the first boot device: go back to the 'Boot' menu (press Esc key) then select 'Boot Device Priority'.

Then select your USB flash drive as the '1st Boot Device' (it was automatically selected for me).

5. F10 to save the new settings and reboot (leave the USB flash drive in your machine).

6. After installation, remember to go back into the BIOS SETUP UTILITY to change the "1st Drive" back to your hard disk drive.

Other notes:

- To use the wi-fi I had to upgrade the kernel: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … rnel-2630/

- As others have experienced, the default Network Manager disconnects from time to time for no apparent reason. Replacing it with Wicd solved the issue for me - search for "sudo apt-get remove" at: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … pping-out/ (you must remove Network Manager after getting Wicd).

Its a little slow to reconnect after coming out of sleep (compared to my Macbook) but it works.

- I hated the 'tap-to-click' (too sensitive) so I disabled it with this: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … aptoclick/

- I love the 8+ hours of battery life the 1005HA provides, I love its small form factor, and I'm really liking #! on it!
