I sincerely hope that this is a mistake ... or not? tongue

It's an odd number, but as far as I can tell, I have the RAM maxed out:

And to answer your question:
32 bit: smaller memory consumption
64 bit: slightly better performance; but really really tiny in normal desktop usage/experience

Yeah, I knew that the 32 bit would have smaller RAM requirements. Looks like I should probably stick with that. Thanks!

I have a Thinkpad T60 with a dual core processor, but only 3 MB of RAM (the max the system will handle). Should I install the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Crunchbang?

I had time so I did a clean install, did not install laptop-mode-tools. It works fine so far! Thanks!

I always thought I needed laptop-mode-tools for any laptop to work properly. I'll try removing it, though, and see how it works, then I will try installing TLP. Thanks!

I have CrunchBang Waldorf 32-bit pae running on my T60 and I'm running into a strange problem. It is a completely vanilla install plus the laptop-mode-tools package, which came recommended for running Debian on a Thinkpad.

The machine runs normally on AC. If I take the machine off the adapter and boot it it locks up right before the login prompt appears. If I turn the wireless radio off, it will boot normally. Of course, with the wireless off, it's useless for most of the things I want to do with it.

Thinking it might be a power management issue, I did an apt-get remove on laptop-mode-tools and did an apt-get install again. I onticed that it has a problem configuring the wireless adapter:

lenovo@crunchbang:~$ sudo apt-get install laptop-mode-tools

This is the wireless adapter in question:

Am I missing a driver or some sort of configuration with the wireless that's causing this problem with laptop-mode-tools? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

#6 Re: Introductions » New to CrunchBang. New to Linux. Few questions. » 2013-04-18 18:30:37

Installed Waldorf (non-pae version), love it! Had no wrinkles during installation. Added an enhanced battery pack and now I'm getting four hours of run time unplugged.

One question. I tried compiling my own kernel as per these instructions:

http://www.linux-answered.com/2012/08/1 … wn-kernel/

The system balked on the very last command (will post error message later). Has anyone compiled their own kernel for the T42 who can give me some tips?

Brand new to CrunchBang, I also have a Thinkpad T42 (1 GB RAM plus wireless) that I plan on installing Waldorf on tonight. zild, any additional wisdom you picked up in the last month?
