Oh hey, I finally got it! I had to download a root certificate of the university and import it manually into claws (is also possible with thunderbird) and now I can send mails (puh) and for gmail it suddenly works, too (I do not really understand why, but the certificate of the university obviously also matches gmail)...
So I'm happy again;-)
Thanks for your help!
Yes, receiving mails is no problem. And inside the vpn-net of my university I can also send mails, unencrypted (port 25)...
Sorry, had not time to answer... But the problem is, that I configured it exactly in that way (and many others), but nothing helps... Formerly I used Thunderbird for my mails, so before I installed #! I made a copy of my .mozilla-thunderbird folder and I copied it to the right place now, so theoretically all my configurations should still be the same, but nevertheless, the problem exists for both email providers. Is there any difference between ubuntu and #! about those smtp_auth & co - things?
Sorry, I'm not really an expert in this topic, but thanks for your help!
Wow, I really thank you for that kind welcome, never experienced this in a forum before
So once again I am convinced, that this distro is a good choice (besides the efficient working with it!)
Hello,
I just got my first problem with #!... I was using thunderbird and installed it again, configured it for my gmail-account and (much more important) my university account -> both using SMTP_AUTH for sending emails. And no mail could be sent... Then I installed claws mail again (and was surprised - it really is much better!), but the problem is the same... If I'm in the vpn of the university I can send unencrypted mails via smtp, but outside the vpn I need smtp_auth for that (as for googlemail) where nothing happens... The ports are free (checked the firewall in gufw) and I tried every combination of configurations in claws (and also every combination of ports), but nothing helps... Does anyone have any idea?
I really Thank You,
Alex
Thank you, sure I will, both ;-)

Hallo!
I started first tries with linux (SuSE then) approx. 4 years ago and 2 years ago I switched to ubuntu (and was happy most time), then to debian (is really cool but needs a lot of attention) and finally over kubuntu back to ubuntu. But most of the time I was a bit angered by the speed and the richness of gnome (though its still better than kde). But the problem is, that I always was in need of a system, that is fast and easy to configure (as I'm a biologist and not a computer scientist) but is fast and effective designed (not just mouse-clicking) -> so I was searching for a middle between hacker- and newbie-system and I think this was exactly the right time for #! crunchbang -> the first time I saw it (yesterday) it looked interesting -> And it will surely stay in future ;-) This is the first time, I'm absolutely happy about everything! It is easy to install and use, richly to configure and it is very aesthetic (important! and not brown;) ) -> so thank you for that great distro and I'm looking forward to a great future of it :-D
Thank you again and best greetings from Germany,
Alex
