java and javascript have nothing to do with each other! however javascript is being used to somehow get java code to run on your computer without you noticing it.
€dit: i think java never will be truly "save"

It's also the way you do it if you prefer to use a Windows bootloader to chainload grub. Not that I build dual boot machines any more but I prefer to do it that way as you can reinstall either OS without trashing the other installation.
Exactly I prefer the windows bootloader. I use easyBCD to add a bootmenu entry for other operating systems. It works perfectly!
IIRC, the installer does give you the option of installing GRUB to a partition; however, I have not needed to do this, so I don't know for absolute certain.
Which version of CrunchBang are you trying to install? I seem to remember reading about a bug affecting that part of the installation process, but I've read that a fix has been applied to the latest Waldorf image.
I wanted to install stable, however it was waldorf (accidentally downloaded the wrong image). So i don't think that it was fixed in waldorf. I think it would work if my laptop didn't crash (it crashed when copying system files not in grub-installation process).
I will try to install stable in virtualbox first to see how I can set grub options.
So thanks!
Hey,
I tried to install crunchbang on my laptop yesterday. During install it crashed due to overheating. However i thought that: As the grub-installation is the last thing to do in the installation process, I'm safe to reboot back into Windows 7, but unfortunately somehow my MBR got completely erased before. I was able to fix the bootloader and my Windows 7 is usable again. So my question is:
How can i tell the crunchbang installer NOT to install grub in my MBR but on the / partition.
like this:
/dev/sda <- windows bootloader
/dev/sda1 <- windows 100MB partition
dev/sda2 <- windows C: drive
/dev/sda3 <- crunchbang / <- GRUB goes here
/dev/sda4 <- swap
I was able to set this up in Ubuntu how does it work in Crunchbang?
Hello,
thanks for all the answers!
My low performance graphics card is a radeon HD 4250 and the "high performance" one is a radeon HD 6470M. I have problems even on M$ windows 7 with the driver. I can only use the one provided on the HP driver page. Even the automatic driver recognition tools of AMD fail installing any other working driver...
My laptop is a hp pavilion g7 1006-sg. I don't know why but the driver keeps crashing when using 2D/3D acceleration in java on windows 7. Minecraft crashes completely whereas the new JavaFX scene builder causes only the driver to crash and to be restored again. So probably it's problematic hardware.. On linux minecraft used to work fine^^
Thank you so much! I couldn't use a single distro with the new kernels and unfortunately the repos for the older versions were down.
If there is a new version of crunchbang can i keep the kernel while upgrading the distro?
Hello,
my graphics-cards drivers only work with kernel versions 2.x.
Since Ubuntu 11.04 (and the kernel that shipped with it) no distro supports
the drivers with my hardware properly.
So is it possible for me to get the stable version of Crunchbang and downgrade the kernel?
If yes could you link a good Tutorial to do so?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards
Selim
