CrunchBang Linux

Hi,
So, from the start - I really love Crunchbang, I even converted my family (both of my sisters and Mum ) to it, but there are some problems as well...
More precisely, I having the exact same problem as kestrel here, and haven't been able to find any solution, to it yet. The only way I can shutdown or reboot my machine is, with these scripts, in terminator:
gnome-power-cmd.sh shutdown
gnome-power-cmd.sh reboot
I suspect, that it started after I installed Python, but I'm not sure about it...
help would be much  appreciated!
