#3 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » Upgrading kernel to 3.5 » 2013-03-29 16:53:45

thanks y2kcorvette, but unfortunately i could not install kernel 3.5 using this script. I can't use kernel 3.7 simply because amd drivers cannot be installed on 3.7...

#4 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » Upgrading kernel to 3.5 » 2013-03-29 00:15:36

My audio card is not fully supported until kernel 3.5.  If I don't upgrade the kernel I will not be able to use the external microphone or the internal microphone...

hi folks,
My current #! has kernel 3.2 and to my netbook (acer AO 722) be fully supported I need to upgrade my kernel to 3.5 at least.
I can't upgrade further than that because my amd proprietary video drivers only supports kernel up to 3.5.
I've already tried to find this kernel on debian backports, using this post : http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic. … %23p258392, but backports doesn't seems to have the kernel.
I couldn't compile my own kernel because i'm not experient enough.
Can anyone help me?

hi  folks again, I just wanted to say thank you for all help.  I upgraded my kernel, but it didn't work. Then i noticed my wireless driver was freezing my system. I installed the driver from broadcom oficial site, but i continued with the same problem. finaly i changed the boot order, putting the network boot to be the first. It's working  at least until now  big_smile. hope it continue working!

thanks again!

wuxmedia, yes i have tried the manual approach.
Well, i'm sorry i told you one wrong thing. I told you that fedora's kernel was not so much new, I was wrong, so now im going to try to upgrade my kernel and see what happens

#8 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-10 18:37:05

yep, i had no problems with suspending on linuxBBQ. But on fedora 18 I also had no problems with suspending and its kernel is not much new. I felt like fedora was handling the wireless driver errors because it's always asking to report bugs from the wireless driver...

#9 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-10 17:35:36

After testing a bit, i guess the problem is with the wireless driver (brcm80221) but i dont know what to do since i need it...

I tried some of the quirks, but got no luck. I also have tried linuxBBQ Escargot, but my microphone still not work. Also my wireless card didn't work, it is a broadcom, not a atheros

#11 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-09 18:16:47

Hi fatmac, i didn't understand very well, are you using the 64bit version of Linuxbbq escargot or the 64bit version of #! on your AO722?

#12 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-09 13:24:05

the output of the script posted on http://hal.freedesktop.org/quirk/quirk- … debug.html is this:

WARNING: You have no quirks!
./quirk-checker.sh: 1: ./quirk-checker.sh: hal-get-property: not found
./quirk-checker.sh: 1: ./quirk-checker.sh: hal-get-property: not found
CRITICAL ERROR: Using ATI binary driver. This is not supported!

also my netbook is not listed in http://hal.freedesktop.org/quirk/quirk- … check.html
This netbook (acer AO722) is very frustrating on linux, that's why I asked if some of you guys that have this same netbook could tell me what's working and what's not

#13 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-09 02:45:02

I have been following the #! community for a while (as a guest) and it's seems to me that a lot of you fellows have the acer aspire one 722. So I wanted to know from you how is the performance of this netbook running #!, and what is working and what is not.
I also want to thank the community for the huge support and the kindness.
thank you very much!

#14 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-08 21:53:37

Im downloading the 64bit one.
My only fear is the instability... I dont want to fix my system all the time...

#15 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Suspend/reboot/shutdown sometimes freezes my laptop. » 2013-02-08 20:57:31

Thanks for your reply fatmac!

I know this aspire one 722 is a pain  cry
I'll download the LinuxBBQ Escargot right now. Its just gonna take a little while because my internet is too much slow...

I didn't wanted to leave #! because I liked it too much...
Just one more question, which iso should I download, the linuxbbq-1.0-escargot64.iso that is under Base64 or other?

Hi folks,

I'm new to #! (I've been using it for a month), and I'm having a weird problem.
Sometimes (about the 30% of the time) my laptop freezes when i try to suspend or sleep or reboot.
It's weird because I can not figure out the cause of these freezes. I've tried to to suspend when browser is open or when it's not or other application like terminator or file manager and etc are open.

My laptop is an acer aspire one 722 with amd c-50 processor with redeon 6250 (graphics)
My wireless card is broadcom bcm 4313.

The only things I have changed from the fresh install is that I installed the amd video driver and these http://wiki.debian.org/brcm80211 drivers for the wireless card.

I don't think the problem is the video driver because I've used it with a lot of others distros and i didn't have any problems.

When the laptop freezes, the screen doesn't turn black, it stay where it was in the moment I asked it to suspend/shutdown/.

Any help would be good.

Thanks.
