Hello, I am running Statler xfce 32bit on an Asus eee 1000H and its been running fine for months.
Today when I boot it up I received the following error msg after GRUB:

FATAL: Module index: unexpected error: EOF
             Try re-running depmod

10 seconds later I am dropped into initramfs.
The same happens when I select "recovery mode" in GRUB.
Booting into Win XP (on same disk) works fine.

I did do an apt-get upgrade when it last worked, but I cant recall anything major being updated. I have honestly no idea what this means. If someone has any idea as to what causes this error I would really appreciate your input.

Hello #! people.

Ive been using Linux on my own computers since this Christmas but I have used Linux/GNU to some extent threw shells for some years. I now dual-boot both of my machines with Linux and Windows. On my workstation I use Xubuntu 9.04 / Win XP PRO SP2 and on my laptop I use #eee / Win XP PRO SP3.

The first Linux dist I installed to my laptop was Eeebuntu 8.10 which is basically a vanilla ubuntu install but with some added drivers and scripts for eee. At the time it seemed like a good idea and while it was great to see Linux up and running so quickly I soon realized that this was a half-finished product made fast to meet the demands of the growing netbook user base. I also didn't realize that GNOME would be so resource heavy and that there were just so much software and packages I would never need. I wanted something lighter. Ive done allot of distrohopping (if you can call it that) with liveCD's and Virtualbox in hope of finding a suitable Linux dist for my laptop (since I'm extraordinarily impressed with xubuntu for my WS). and I think I found it now. I don't know how I found #! maybe it was from eeeuser forums or the openbox wikipage. Either way, I'm happy I did!

What I like about #eee is firstly the look and feel. The grey/black theme really works for me its different but subtle. I like that it doesn't come over packed with software. I feel that its just annoying to uninstall stuff when if you really want something installing is most of the time totally hassle free on Linux anyway. I like that after boot the system uses around 150MB ram. I like that wi-fi worked "out the box". I like the community.

I actually put off this introduction for awhile to be able to give some thoughts on the system so here we go:
Speaker sound didn't work at first, then I did absolutely nothing for a day or two and then It just started working.

x.org crashed at one point, I haven't read the log but what happen was I was using firefox browsing some boards and all of a sudden the screen starts resizing and boom! x died. Reboot fixed that.

My swap file became larger than my ram by 100% once, don't know if that's normal? I thought ram first then swap.

The next version should come with eeeasy script 2.0 since its way better than eee-control.

If leafpad is removed than super + e doesn't work and yields no error. Might be confusing to first timers (maybe make nano in terminal take over?).

Virtualbox doesn't recognize the kernel, maybe virtualbox's fault?

Some config screens are bigger than the highest possible resolution, very annoying.

Id like a minimal boot only install iso that downloads during install for the next release.

Wow that was a lengthy post, sorry.

I think I have the same error:

VKnYgMHzR.png

But after adding the lines from https://launchpad.net/~gwibber-team/+archive/ppa to /etc/apt/sources.list how do I install them?
"aptitude search gwibber" only shows gwibber and themes.

Im gonna go ahead and borrow this thread to ask. How can I make gufw autostart? the "autostart with session" checkbox in edit > preferences is grayed out.

#5 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Cruncheee: No speaker sound [Eee 1000H] » 2009-06-21 22:12:46

The weirdest thing. On the fifth or sixth reboot I was granted at login with a very loud GODIIINNGG noise. Hurray the speakers work! I read in another thread that the problem was solved by removing the battery and then waited 5 minutes. Thats not what I did, anyway I guess its a weird hardware thing.

For reference for others I have a:
Asus Eee PC 1000H 160GB Black 10,2" that came with XP.

Hello!

I installed #eee today and everything is working great so far, the only problem is the sound.
I DO get sound from the headphone jack using standard ipod headphones but when i unplug them there is no speaker sound to take-over. Using the Super+v command shows PCM and Line Out at max same does alsamixer in terminal. Its so weird!

Help needed! smile
