#2 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » Problem with HostAPD » 2012-07-29 00:59:48

I came back to Mint and tested it. One thing I found that in MInt and Ubuntu, this card rt3090 is using rt2800pci driver....................got exam today. Will test it at the evening.

I've been a user of *buntus for a long time. Later on moved to Mint for a while (1 year). But the thirst for a true minimalistic environment never quite went. So moved to #!

It looks pretty neat, clean, to the point. I really feel comfortable with the apt-get manager. Thanks for that.

Hope it's going to be a nice time with it. Willing to persevere to make it work for me smile

I've posted another thread about a hostapd problem but here's another one since it seems to be a little more generic to patching.

How to apply a patch to source code? I have hostapd source code. There's a patches folder in it. How do I apply the patch?

Hello,
I'm new here and facing a liitle problem. Back when I was an Ubuntu user I had no problem setting up my Laptop as hotspot for my Android phone. But after I moved to #! I'm having a little (or a lot) problem setting it up. But I'm loving #! and I totally want to stay so please help me.

I installed hostapd using apt-get, configured it using

http://nims11.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/hostapd-the-linux-way-to-create-virtual-wifi-access-point/

this page. But when I went call the initSoftAP script (just the way I did for ubuntu) it said nl82011 driver missing and initialization failed.

So I went on discovering. I found that the rt2860 driver (my card is rt3090) has some problems, found a lot of pages and tried so many things. But no luck.........it ends up using the same.

Then I reinstalled #! thinking I might have messed it all up a lot than it should have been and then browsed again in a different path. LFound that the hostapd site has something different to say.

They're saying if you see that error (nl80211 driver not found / invalid / missing) then it might be that my repo isn't serving it with. So I downloaded their sourcecode (as they said) and tried to compile (as they told) using

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Documentation/hostapd

But here's the catch again.l
I can't finish compiling because a certain error comes

'NL_SKIP' undefined

Found that they gave a patch for it but now I don't know how to use it.
The hostapd page alerted on another error that I don't seem to get but still went on to investigate. The libnl-1.0-pre8 module has to be compiled. I don't think I need to do that but still I tried and failed because another error. smile

'ULONG_MAX' undefined

Found another patch that seems to solve it but it's not in a file, it's in text. Not understanding from which point I should start copying the text (super noob)

Please guys, at least help with the patching ASAP..........I love #! for it's lightweight simplicity....... big_smile
