peter@crunchbang:~$ Okay, alsa-base is re-installed now.
Still the same error messages from alsamixer.
Reboot did not help
I will try the other available cb iso-images.
Thanks, there is some progress on my cb system, but still no sound.
Both modprobe commands worked fine, in alsamixer the ESS soundcard appeared and was selected.
But after reboot the soundcard did not appear any longer in alsamixer and I had to do the same two modprobe commands again to make it re-appear.
These are the error messages from alsa-mixer:
peter@crunchbang:~$ alsamixer
ALSA lib conf.c:1220:(parse_def) show is not a compound
ALSA lib conf.c:1686:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:24:26:Unexpected char
ALSA lib conf.c:3406:(config_file_open) /usr/share/alsa/pulse-alsa.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it
peter@crunchbang:~$ "sudo modprobe snd-maestro3" had no error message. But still no sound.
Here comes the output:

Hi, my cb-installation shows the same problem like Maleficus posted: Operation not permitted when inserting snd_maestro3.
Are there any updates on how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
