Great initiative!
I've been looking for a linux equivalent of WinSplit revolution for years..
Some people do need a linux equivalent to WinSplit revolution!  I've tried most of the stuff out there like you did, but nothing fits this need. I like my windows manager I don't want to change it, and I don't want to use heavy appliations like compiz.

My solution was to do some keykings and use wmctrl. But so far, I haven't done an automated scripts for that.

I'm using a lateral panel on my screen with xfce, and I'm not sure your program supports it fully.
Also, I'm always using two screens in Twinview with nvidia... There should be a way to detect these multiple screens and behave accordingly, but that's probably quite some work.
If your application offers this, I'm pretty sure I will kick ass! I'll definitely advertise it!
