Yep, that did it. Thanks a lot for all the help. As a newbie to Linux, I'm really enjoying the simplified and minimalist approach in #!. I had tried the eeebuntu distro first, but I quickly got bored/annoyed with the UI. This is way cooler.
I did try that earlier. But I must have made a mistake someplace, because i could not figure out where it was installed and how to use it.
I took the easy way out and reinstalled #!. This time, I saved a copy of the original rc.xml before trying to make changes, so that I could restore it if needed. I tried to add a new shortkey combination to open Pidgin, saved and reconfigured, and it worked! This is perfect. I plan to add a few more such shortcuts, basically to minimize my use of the touchpad buttons on my ASUS EEEPC 1000HE. I find them a little on the hard side.
Now, I only need to either make eee-coontrol work, or find a substitute for it.
Quick question again. What do I do after copying it to the openbox folder? I opened it in VI, but I get a warning to not make any changes.
Thanks. I'll try that.
I installed #! from USB. Will that work? Will I be able to access the files on the harddrive when I'm booting off USB? I have a feeling that's a very dumb question, but I've never really dealt with dual booting stuff before
Actually, there is something else that I really need help with now. I was trying to add more keyboard shortcuts in rc.xml. I think I messed up a tag, and shutdown before fixing that. Now, I can't get any menus to open or shortcuts to work. I need to find a way to reopen rc.xml and fix the tag.
I'm thinking the one way to do this would be to boot directly to the command line instead of the gui, but I'm not sure how to do this.
Thanks.
D'oh! And there it is like magic. Thanks. I need to spend a lot more time familiarizing myself with linux.
Help. Newbie here. I installed Cruncheee on my Asus eeepc 1000HE. Things mostly works great and I love the look. One of the things which doesn't work is eee-control and eee-configure, but that's not a crunchbang issue. It hasn't been updated for the 1000HE. Instead I wanted to install eeepc-acpi-scripts. I needed to update my third-party software sources for that. But I can't seem to find it through the menu. I know I'm supposed to go Menu -> System -> Administration -> Software Sources. But under System, I don't even see Administration.
What can I do to have it show up in the menu? What's missing? I know that I can probably go through terminal and alter the sources list directly from there. But I want to figure out what the issue is here. I'm a newbie to Linux, much less #!. It's only since I got my 1000HE a couple of weeks ago that I'm trying to learn and use it. I would really appreciate any help and advice I can get.
